The United States Supreme Court has chosen to allow a middle school’s banning of a student t-shirt stating “There are only two genders” to go unchallenged by the high court.
At issue was a June 2024 ruling by Obama- and Biden-appointed federal court judges that said school administrators have leeway under the First Amendment to regulate content that might allegedly be “demeaning.”

A new peer-reviewed study published by the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) uncovered widespread miscoding of emergency room (ER) visits following drug-induced abortions, raising serious concerns about patient safety.
Using anonymized Medicaid claims data, researchers reviewed nearly 29,000 ER visits within 30 days of a surgical or drug-induced abortion. They then determined whether each visit was related to the abortion and whether it was accurately coded as abortion-related or misclassified as a miscarriage. Each case was also evaluated for acuity—which is a measure of the severity and complexity of each patient’s condition.

In another twist of events in the abortion wars in Missouri, that State’s Supreme Court ordered a judge in Jackson County to relinquish prior rulings that had blocked the state’s regulations to take effect …
The state’s almost complete ban on abortion forbids abortions except in cases of medical emergencies. Nevertheless, during last year’s November elections voters chose to repeal the law and permit abortions until fetal viability, which is generally around the 24th week of pregnancy.

Government employees and contractors who cared for unaccompanied immigrant children in government custody after they crossed the southern border flagged more than 65,000 instances of concern that went unaddressed by the Biden administration, according to newly released materials.
Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) documents obtained by Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and shared exclusively with the Washington Examiner revealed that the Trump administration identified a backlog of 65,000 reports filed by workers about children in custody or their sponsors who warranted concern.

A brutal attack by extremist Muslim herdsmen in Nigeria on Sunday left dozens dead and resulted in the kidnapping of a Catholic priest and several nuns.
Hundreds of Jihadist Fulani herdsmen gunned down nearly 40 people, more than half of them Christians, across several villages on Sunday, according to a report by Truth Nigeria, a humanitarian-aid nonprofit that seeks to document Nigeria’s struggles with corruption and crime.

Charlotte priests urge bishop to reconsider decision to end traditional Latin Mass in parishes
The pastors of the four parishes where the traditional Latin Mass is celebrated in the Diocese of Charlotte, North Carolina, have asked Bishop Michael Martin, OFM Conv, to reconsider his plans to end the celebration of the extraordinary form in parishes.
“It is important to acknowledge that those attached to the traditional liturgy have, over the past five decades, often felt marginalized and discriminated against,” the priests wrote in their letter, released on May 27 … “Consequently, their trust in Church leadership has, understandably, been weakened over time.”

MIT scraps DEI office, ends programs amid Trump’s fight with Harvard
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) shut down its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) office last week, The Post can exclusively reveal.
MIT President Sally Kornbluth officially closed the Community and Equity Office after earlier prohibiting the use of diversity statements in faculty hiring or student admissions, a university official confirmed.
A senior administrative position at the office will also be eliminated as part of a return to a merit-based focus kicked off by Kornbluth in January 2024.

Washington bishops sue over seal of confession
The bishops of Washington filed a lawsuit Thursday challenging a new state law that requires priests to violate the seal of confession if they suspect the abuse of minors.
The May 29 lawsuit argues that the new law violates First Amendment religious freedom protections, as well as the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment and the Washington constitution.
“Confession offers the faithful a confidential space to seek God’s mercy and guidance. This trust is sacred, and any law that jeopardizes it risks discouraging those who recognize the harm they have caused from seeking moral guidance,” said Jean Hill, executive director of the Washington Catholic Conference, in a statement.

Even after pope’s election, number of Catholics continues to decrease in Peru
After Pope Leo XIV’s election on May 8, a new survey shows the percentage of Catholics continues to decrease in Peru. It was conducted by the Peruvian Studies Institute (known as IEP in Spanish), an independent social science think tank.
In its previous research, carried out in November of 2024, IEP had shown that 63.5 percent of the Peruvian people declared to be Catholic. Six months later – and after Cardinal Robert Prevost, a U.S.-born Peruvian national, was elected as the new pontiff – the percentage of Catholics fell to 60.2 percent.

Pope Leo XIV has demonstrated his US roots as an ardent White Sox baseball fan after making a one-handed catch of a cloth doll thrown at him while on the move in the popemobile.
The impressive demonstration of hand-to-eye coordination, which has caused a stir on social media, occurred as the Pope departed on the popemobile after the weekly general audience at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican on 28 May.
The cloth doll appeared to be dressed in a way that represented the vestments the Pope wore when he first appeared on the balcony of St Peter’s Basilica after being declared as Pope Leo XIV.
