Trump says Gaza peace deal is ‘very close’

President Donald Trump said Sept. 26 that negotiations to end the war in Gaza and secure the release of hostages are “very close.”

“It’s looking like we have a deal on Gaza, and we’ll let you know. I think it’s a deal that will get the hostages back. It’s going to be a deal that will end the war,” Trump told reporters before departing the White House. “It’s going to be peace. I think we have a deal.”

The President’s remarks came a day after he vowed he would not let Israel annex the West Bank.

Trump meeting with House and Senate leaders ahead of government shutdown

President Donald Trump will meet with Democratic and Republican congressional leaders on Monday, the Washington Examiner confirmed, ahead of a looming government shutdown on Oct. 1.

Trump will meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD), and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), per a White House official. Negotiations between the parties have been at a standstill as Republicans argue they have done their job and rallied behind a “clean” short-term spending deal, which punts the funding deadline to Nov. 21.

But Democrats are demanding concessions from the GOP to help alleviate what they call a healthcare “crisis” stemming from reforms to Medicaid made in the “big, beautiful bill” signed into law in July.

FBI Bombshell: 274 agents sent to Capitol for J6, many later complained they were political ‘pawns’

The FBI secretly deployed more than 250 plainclothes agents to the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021 riot, an operation so disorganized it unleashed searing frustrations among many of the FBI’s rank-and-file that the bureau had lost its core competencies to “wokeness” and allowed its employees to become “pawns in a political war,” according to an after-action report kept from the public for more than four years.

Scores of FBI agents and personnel – many from the bureau’s premier Washington field office (WFO) – sent anonymous complaints to the after-action team detailing how agents were sent into an unsafe scenario without proper safety equipment or the ability to identify themselves readily as armed officers to other police agencies, the report obtained by Just the News shows.

Democratic strategist: Democrats have nothing comparable to Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA

A Democratic commentator is warning that his party has not built anything close to the political machine that Charlie Kirk created for conservatives and that his party must “change course urgently” to win the next generation.

The assessment comes from Kaivan Shroff, a political commentator, attorney, and online influencer, in a Sept, 23 op-ed for MSNBC. Shroff argued that while Kirk has often been remembered for his fiery debating style, the more significant legacy is the infrastructure he left behind through Turning Point USA.

ICE Detains Superintendent of Iowa’s Largest School District

Immigration officers detained the superintendent of the Des Moines public schools district, Ian Roberts, the morning of Sept. 26, according to district officials.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement that Roberts was allegedly in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash, and a fixed-blade hunting knife. Agency officials said that Roberts allegedly was in the country illegally with a final order of removal and no work authorization, and that he was detained during a targeted enforcement operation in Des Moines.

In a statement late Friday, school district officials said the board retained JG Consulting to conduct a search for a superintendent and identified Roberts as a candidate. Baker-Eubanks conducted a third-party comprehensive background check. …

Traditional Latin Mass lacks approval at Texas A&M University

The Diocese of Austin said Catholic students in College Station, Texas, did not secure required permissions to hold a Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) on the campus and did not permit it to proceed.

Texas A&M sophomore Nick Cardone, president of the local chapter of a group known as Juventutem International, said in a press release Sept. 24 that a priest from the Diocese of Victoria, Texas, was scheduled to say the Mass for members of the group in a reserved room in an on-campus conference center. The priest called the night before the Mass was scheduled, however, saying the chancellor of the Austin Diocese sent him a directive “expressly forbidding him from traveling to College Station.”

Silent Shepherds, Forsaken Lambs – opinion essay

For faithful Catholics, the news that yet another pro-abortion politician is being celebrated by the liberal-leaning ecclesial authorities of their own Church is discouraging. Their sorrow is not just because Chicago’s Cardinal Blase Cupich has decided to grant a “Lifetime Achievement Award” to 80-year-old Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL)—a Catholic politician who has devoted his career to championing abortion access at every turn. It is also because of the deafening silence from nearly all of the bishops throughout the country. For Catholics who believe the Church must speak truth to power, this moment feels like abandonment.

Aside from a handful of courageous bishops, the 430 active and retired bishops who participate in the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops have remained publicly silent while one of their own honors a politician whose 100 percent pro-abortion voting score in 2024 from the Planned Parenthood Action Fund stands in direct opposition to the Church’s pro-life teachings. There has been no collective challenge, no visible dissent, and no public defense of the unborn from the episcopate. …

Catholic school teacher on administrative leave after informing leadership about her surrogacy

Jadira Bonilla, a 35-year-old kindergarten teacher at St. Mary Catholic School in Vineland, says her decision to become a surrogate has put her career in limbo.

Bonilla said the issue came to light about two weeks ago when she informed a school official about her surrogacy. She was shocked by the response.

“Me, not thinking anything of it, not thinking I’m doing anything wrong, because the first time I was a surrogate, I was at a different Catholic school. I said, ‘Oh, I’m going to be a surrogate.’ And he looked at me and said, ‘You are renting your uterus?'” Bonilla recalled.

Canon lawyer to lead Dicastery for Bishops

Pope Leo XIV has made one of his most consequential appointments to date, naming a canon lawyer to take on his own former Curial position as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.
