Israeli Embassy accuses Vatican of ‘criticizing Israel’ but ‘overlooking’ Hamas’ guilt
Israel’s Embassy to the Holy See published a statement Oct. 7 accusing the Vatican of potentially “undermining” peace efforts in Gaza by “criticizing Israel” and not focusing enough on Hamas’ refusal to release hostages.
The statement followed an interview with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, which Vatican News released to mark the second anniversary of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel and the beginning of Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
In the interview, Cardinal Parolin had condemned Hamas’ attack and reiterated the numerous calls of both the late Pope Francis and Pope Leo for the terrorist group to release the Israeli hostages. He decried a rise in antisemitism as well, warning of the danger of seeing a repetition of the Holocaust. In addition, he reexpressed the Vatican’s condemnations, during both pontificates, of Israel’s “ongoing massacre” of Palestinians in Gaza.

Texas National Guard deploys 200 troops to Illinois for federal protection mission amid protests
Texas National Guard troops arrived in Illinois on Tuesday to protect federal personnel and property amid anti-immigration protests, the Pentagon confirmed.
A Pentagon official said 200 guardsmen were mobilized for an initial 60-day period.
Troops arrived in Illinois “in support of the Federal Protection Mission to protect federal functions, personnel, and property,” according to a Pentagon statement.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) [Monday] announced the arrest of the criminal illegal alien and Latin Kings Gang Member who placed a bounty on the Commander at Large of the U.S. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino.
On October 03, 2025, a confidential source provided information indicating a “hit” had been placed on Chief Bovino by a member of the Latin Kings Street Gang. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) identified the individual who placed the “hit” as Juan Espinoza Martinez and arrested him on October 6, 2025 in Burr Ridge, Illinois.

Washington, D.C., police on Sunday arrested a man with hundreds of explosive devices outside a church holding a Mass in honor of the Supreme Court. The man had a manifesto that suggested he was targeting the Supreme Court and Catholics, according to court papers obtained by The Daily Wire.
Louis Geri, a 41-year-old from Arizona and New Jersey, was apprehended outside the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle on October 5, the same day the church held its annual “Red Mass” in which a cardinal prays for the high court as it embarks on a new term, and which is historically attended by justices.

Comey makes history as first former FBI director to face arraignment
Former FBI Director James Comey will appear in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, on Wednesday to face charges of making a false statement to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding, a case that brings one of Washington’s most polarizing law enforcement figures back to the same district he once served, albeit under drastically different circumstances.
Comey, who once served as managing assistant U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia’s Richmond Division, was indicted on Sept. 25 by U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan, making him the first former FBI director to be criminally charged after leaving office. His arraignment, initially scheduled for Thursday, was moved up a day due to heightened security concerns, according to court filings.

Church of Nigeria Leaves Church of England After it Appoints Pro-Abortion Archbishop
The Church of Nigeria, representing over 18 million Anglicans, has declared spiritual independence from the Church of England, citing the recent appointment of a new archbishop who supports abortion as emblematic of the English church’s departure from biblical orthodoxy on life and family issues.
The move comes after the Church of England confirmed Dame Sarah Mullally, the former Bishop of London, as Archbishop of Canterbury last week, making her the first woman in the role in nearly 500 years.

Priests assaulted amid ongoing anti-Christian incidents in India
Two Catholic priests are recovering from an assault by masked men amid ongoing reports of anti-Christian persecution in India.
Following the attack, the priests were taken to a health center, where they were reported to be in a stable condition. Photographs released by the local Simdega diocese showed the clerics receiving medical treatment. Long bruises were visible on Fr. Baghwar’s back.
The assailants, whose identity is unknown, stole around $3,400 in cash stored on the church premises. But local Catholic officials have cast doubt on whether theft was the sole motive for the attack, suggesting that dislike of the Church’s social and educational work could be another factor.

Catholic bishops have today led an international act of reparation for the LGBT Jubilee pilgrimage which saw activists carry a rainbow cross through St. Peter’s Basilica last month.

Pope Leo XIV to make first international trip, to Turkey and Lebanon
Pope Leo XIV will visit Turkey and Lebanon in the first apostolic journey of his pontificate, to take place from Nov. 27 to Dec. 2, the Vatican announced Tuesday.
Holy See Press Office Director Matteo Bruni said the pope accepted the invitations of the “Head of State and Ecclesiastical Authorities” of both countries in an Oct. 7 statement released by the Vatican.
During the six-day papal trip, the Holy Father will visit the Turkish city of Iznek to mark the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, an ecumenical milestone in Church history that led to the formulation of the Nicene Creed.
