Treasury Sanctions Major Russian Oil Companies, Calls on Moscow to Immediately Agree to Ceasefire

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is imposing further sanctions as a result of Russia’s lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end the war in Ukraine.  Today’s actions increase pressure on Russia’s energy sector and degrade the Kremlin’s ability to raise revenue for its war machine and support its weakened economy. The United States will continue to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the war, and a permanent peace depends entirely on Russia’s willingness to negotiate in good faith. Treasury will continue to use its authorities in support of a peace process.

“Now is the time to stop the killing and for an immediate ceasefire,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “Given President Putin’s refusal to end this senseless war, Treasury is sanctioning Russia’s two largest oil companies that fund the Kremlin’s war machine. Treasury is prepared to take further action if necessary to support President Trump’s effort to end yet another war. We encourage our allies to join us in and adhere to these sanctions.”

Democrats Announce Plan to Launch ‘Master ICE Tracker’

The chairman of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee is pushing back on Democrats’ plan to track the activity of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Los Angeles.

“Oversight Committee Democrats are completely unhinged,” Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., told The Daily Signal on Wednesday.

Democrats on the House Oversight Committee are preparing to launch a platform that they say will track the activity of some ICE agents.

“Over the course of the next couple of weeks, the Oversight Committee will be launching on their website a master ICE tracker, where we’re going to be essentially tracking every single instance that we can verify that the community will be able to send us information on, and it’ll be all available in one central place,” said Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the ranking member of the committee.

Latest Violence Against Federal Officer Leaves a US Marshal and Illegal Shot During ICE Stop

Both the Marshal and the migrant were wounded Tuesday morning during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in Los Angeles, according to the Department of Homeland Security. The two are expected to survive, according to Newsmax.

Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS Assistant Secretary told Newsmax that the condition is ongoing and the “information is preliminary.”

“During a targeted enforcement traffic stop in the Los Angeles area, an illegal alien — who had previously escaped from custody — attempted to evade arrest yet again,” McLaughlin said. “ICE law enforcement officers, assisted by U.S. Marshals, pulled the illegal alien over in a standard law enforcement procedure. The illegal alien weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee.”

Special prosecutor opens investigation into Jay Jones

Democratic Virginia Attorney General nominee Jay Jones is facing a special prosecutor investigation over the 1,000 hours of community service he claims to have completed to avoid jail time after law enforcement caught him speeding at 116 mph.

Jones faced criticism in the press after it was revealed that he completed his community service requirement by spending 500 hours working for Meet Our Moment, his own political action committee, and an additional 500 hours working for the Virginia chapter of the NAACP, spending his time at both organizations engaged in political behavior. Jones’s activities at the nonprofit organizations where he logged community service time included appearing on podcasts, attending catered events, and socializing with fellow Democrats.

Virginia Democrat Jay Jones touts Catholicism on campaign trail amid falling poll numbers

Facing dismal polling odds two weeks after the publication of his murderous texts from 2022, Democratic Virginia attorney general candidate Jay Jones met with pastors Oct. 22 and touted his self-proclaimed status as a Catholic.

“It was an honor to meet with pastors from across Hampton Roads this morning,” Jones posted on X. “As a Catholic, I’ve always drawn strength from faith and community — the same values that guide me in this campaign and in service.”

As reported by Newsweek Oct. 21, a Virginia Commonwealth University poll released that day found incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares, a Republican, leading with 45% of the vote to Jones’ 42%. The same poll found Jones leading Miyares 47% to 41% in September.

Italian bishops: Gaza hospital ‘concrete solidarity

The Italian bishops’ conference say they are helping to build a hospital in Gaza as a way of “concrete help” to their public rhetoric about human rights in the Holy Land.

Amid Gaza’s ongoing humanitarian crisis, the Italian bishops’ conference and the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem announced on Sep. 30 a joint initiative to build a hospital in the Gaza territory, where more than 80% of medical facilities have been damaged or destroyed.

“There is a very serious health problem, and we want to address it with the patriarchate: it is a concrete commitment that will mobilize a lot of energy,” Archbishop Giuseppe Baturi, secretary general of the Italian bishops’ conference, said in a statement announcing the project during a visit to the Holy Land.

Study finds more Americans say religion is gaining influence — and see it as a positive force

A new study by the Pew Research Center has found that more Americans now believe religion is gaining influence in public life, with a growing share also viewing its impact as positive.

The research, released on 20 October, is based on two national surveys of U.S. adults carried out in February and May 2025.

The findings show a significant rise in the number of Americans who say religion’s role in society is increasing. In February 2024, only 18 per cent of adults said religion was gaining influence, the lowest figure recorded by Pew in more than two decades. By February 2025, that number had climbed to 31 per cent, the highest in fifteen years.

The increase was observed across political, age and religious groups. Among white evangelical Protestants, 36 per cent said religion was becoming more significant in public life, up 20 points from the previous year.

Cleveland Diocese extends Latin Mass

The Diocese of Cleveland has confirmed that the Vatican granted permission for the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) at two diocesan churches for an additional two years.

The extension applies to St. Mary’s Church in Akron and St. Stephen’s in Cleveland, both of which, according to the Catholic Herald, had previously been granted limited approval to continue celebrating the extraordinary form of the Roman rite.

At both parishes, diocesan priests say the Masses, rather than priests from the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter or the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, as sometimes occurs in other dioceses.
