Trump Nears Trade Deal With China
A trade deal between the United States and China is drawing closer, officials from the world’s two largest economies said Sunday as they reached an initial consensus for President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to aim to finalize during their high-stakes meeting.
Any agreement would be a relief to international markets even it does not address underlying issues involving manufacturing imbalances and access to state-of-the-art computer chips.
Beijing recently limited exports of rare earth elements that are needed for advanced technologies, and Trump responded by threatening additional tariffs on Chinese products. The prospect of a widening conflict risked weakening economic growth worldwide.

Trump Will Reverse Biden Rule Funding Abortions for Illegal Immigrants
The Trump administration is moving to roll back a Joe Biden-era regulation that allows taxpayer dollars to pay for unaccompanied illegal alien children in the U.S. to travel to get abortions, The Daily Signal has learned.
President Donald Trump’s Department of Health and Human Services is cleaning up the Biden administration regulation so that it is in compliance with the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits taxpayer funding for abortions, HHS officials told The Daily Signal.
“HHS is reviewing the relevant regulations and guidance to ensure they align with all applicable laws, including the Hyde Amendment,” an HHS official told The Daily Signal in a statement.

Democrats Cry ‘Voter Intimidation’ as DOJ Deploys Election Monitors to California, New Jersey
The Department of Justice announced Friday it will send election monitors to polling locations across California and New Jersey for the upcoming November 4 general election, citing efforts to ensure transparency and compliance with federal voting laws.
According to a Justice Department press release, monitors from the Civil Rights Division will be present in six jurisdictions—Passaic County, New Jersey; and California’s Kern, Riverside, Fresno, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties. Attorney General Pamela Bondi said the initiative is meant to “uphold the highest standards of election integrity” and guarantee that “the American people get the fair, free, and transparent elections they deserve.”
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon stated that “Transparent election processes and election monitoring are critical tools for safeguarding our elections and ensuring public trust in the integrity of our elections” …

Mystery Billionaire Who Donated $130M to Pay Our Troops During Shutdown Has Been Identified
Patriotic billionaire heir Timothy Mellon has been identified as the anonymous donor who stepped forward with a massive $130 million gift to cover the salaries of U.S. military personnel during the ongoing federal government shutdown.
As the Democrat’s shutdown stretches into its third week, hundreds of thousands of federal workers, including our brave servicemen and women, have been left without paychecks due to congressional gridlock.
The shutdown began when Congress failed to pass appropriations legislation for the 2026 fiscal year. Republicans pushed a short-term funding bill, but Senate Democrats blocked it, demanding additional spending on health care and other provisions not included in the proposal.

Cardinal Burke Celebrates Traditional Latin Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica
In the presence of hundreds of priests and with lay faithful packed into the pews and standing along the walls, U.S. Cardinal Raymond L. Burke celebrated the traditional Latin Mass at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica.
The Vatican said Pope Leo XIV had authorized the cardinal to celebrate the pre-Vatican II liturgy Oct. 25 with people attending the annual Ad Petri Sedem “Summorum Pontificum” Pilgrimage to Rome.
“Summorum Pontificum” was Pope Benedict XVI’s 2007 document that expanded access to the old liturgy, giving priests discretion over whether to celebrate it and asserting that the faithful had a right to ask for it.

Pope Leo XIV authorizes beatification of 20th-century martyrs of Nazism and Communism
Pope Leo XIV has authorized the beatification of two groups of 20th-century martyrs — priests who gave their lives under Nazi and Communist persecution — marking a new chapter in the Church’s remembrance of modern witnesses to the faith.
The Vatican Press Office announced the decision on Friday, alongside the recognition of the heroic virtues of four other Servants of God.
The newly recognized martyrs are Father Jan Świerc and eight companions, professed priests of the Salesian Society of Saint John Bosco, killed “in hatred of the faith” between 1941 and 1942 in the Nazi concentration camps of Auschwitz and Dachau; and Fathers Jan Bula and Václav Drbola, diocesan priests executed by the Communist regime in then Czechoslovakia between 1951 and 1952.

Stop ignoring religion as a key cause of violent attacks – says [Nigerian] bishop
A NIGERIAN bishop has denounced those denying religion is a crucial factor in “genocidal” violence in his country, at the launch of a report which found more than 5.4 billion people globally could face persecution and discrimination for their beliefs.
According to [John] Bishop Bakeni [from Maiduguri Diocese], the underlying causes of violence in Nigeria’s Middle Belt are complex and can be attributed to factors including poverty, climate change and competition for land.
But he stressed: “Whilst the conflict is not solely about religion, it is equally simplistic not to see the religious dimension as a significantly exacerbating factor especially as churches, priests and other potent symbols of Christianity are attacked, seemingly with impunity.”
