DOJ serves grand jury subpoenas to Minnesota Dems in investigation of ICE obstruction
Sources told Fox News that the Department of Justice served grand jury subpoenas on Tuesday to five Minnesota government offices — including the Governor’s Office, the Attorney General’s office and the Minneapolis Mayor’s Office – as part of a federal investigation into alleged conspiracy to coerce or obstruct federal law enforcement during ongoing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Minnesota.
The sources said the FBI served the subpoenas, seeking records and communications. The Justice Department declined to comment on the matter.
Fox News learned late last week that federal prosecutors were investigating both Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for allegedly impeding law enforcement efforts.

Law Professor Jonathan Turley Refutes Keith Ellison’s Claim That There Are No Grounds for Federal Charges in Church Disruption: ‘He is Wrong’
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is trying his best to downplay the invasion of a Minnesota church by unhinged anti-ICE activists, going so far as to suggest that there are no grounds for federal charges.
George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley disagrees.
Turley made the point that there are multiple violations here and that Ellison is just acting as if he was a member of Antifa.

Trump Says He Signed Executive Order to Bring Back Mental Institutions: ‘Got to Get The People Off the Streets’
President Donald Trump revealed that he had signed an Executive Order to bring back mental institutions and mental asylums, stressing the importance of getting “people off the streets.” …
Trump went on to say that while growing up in Queens, New York, there was a place called “Creedmoor.”
Trump shared how he had asked his mom why there were “bars on the windows.” He shared that his mom told him, “people that are very sick are in that building.”
“I’ll never forget — I don’t know if it’s still there, because they got rid of most of them,” Trump added. “The Democrats in New York, they took them down, and the people live on the streets now. That’s why you have a lot of the people in California and other places, they live in the streets.”

GOP Lawmakers Warming to Trump’s Adamant Greenland Push
Republicans in Congress are beginning to publicly echo President Donald Trump’s argument that the United States should move to control Greenland, even as others in the party remain skeptical or openly opposed.
The New York Times reported that as Trump’s rhetoric about Greenland has intensified, so has the party’s interest in the issue.
Trump has been increasingly vocal about acquiring the semiautonomous Arctic territory, which is controlled by Denmark, framing Greenland as critical to U.S. national security and warning that the United States could pursue the goal “the easy way” or “the hard way.”

[To the BBC, Archbishop] Broglio: US personnel could disobey ‘immoral’ orders against Greenland
Catholic personnel in the US military could in good conscience consider disobeying orders to attack Greenland, according to the bishop responsible for their pastoral care.
The Archbishop of the Military Services Timothy Broglio said personnel “could be put in a situation where they’re being ordered to do something that’s morally questionable” if the US acted on President Donald Trump’s threats of military action to take control of Greenland.
Speaking on the BBC’s Sunday programme on 18 January, Archbishop Broglio said it would be “very difficult for a soldier or a marine or a sailor by himself to disobey an order such as that”, but “within the realm of their own conscience it would be morally acceptable to disobey”.

St. Thomas relic stolen from Scarborough church
A cherished relic of St. Thomas the Apostle and the key to the Tabernacle were among the items of significance stolen during a break-and-enter at Toronto’s St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane Church Jan. 14.
Fr. Baiju Chakkery, pastor of the church near Kennedy and Lawrence in Scarborough, told The Catholic Register that a religious nun who sets up the 9 a.m. Mass arrived at 7:50 a.m. to discover a state of disorder.
“She noticed that the relic of St. Thomas the Apostle that was kept beside the altar was not there,” said Chakkery. “Then she looked around and noticed the sacristy was open and all the cupboards and drawers. Then she came running to the parish office and saw it was broken into. All the drawers were open and documents were all over the floor.”

Pope Leo XIV meets FSSP leaders amid visitation, ‘Traditionis Custodes’ fallout
Pope Leo XIV and leaders of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP), a community dedicated to the traditional Roman rite, held a “cordial half-hour meeting” on Monday, Jan. 19, at the apostolic palace.
The priestly fraternity said in a Jan. 20 statement that the Holy Father received in private audience its superior general, Minneapolis-born Father John Berg. Also present was Father Josef Bisig, a co-founder of the FSSP and its first superior general, who now serves as rector of the FSSP’s Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Texas.
The FSSP is a society of apostolic life of pontifical right founded in 1988 by priests who broke with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, the founder of the Society of St. Pius X, precisely in order to remain fully under the Roman pontiff while preserving the older liturgy.
The FSSP’s leaders, who had requested the meeting, said in a cautiously worded statement that it was “an opportunity to present to the Holy Father in greater detail the foundation and history of the fraternity as well as the various forms of apostolate that it has been offering to the faithful for almost 38 years.”

Three cardinals don’t speak for the Church – commentary by Phil Lawler
When three American cardinals issued a statement on American foreign policy earlier this week, their comments naturally commanded public attention. Because the prelates stated at the outset that “events in Venezuela, Ukraine and Greenland have raised basic questions about the use of military force and the meaning of peace,” reporters instantly recognized that the statement was intended as a challenge to President Trump.
These cardinals, like all American citizens, are entitled to their opinions on political issues, including foreign policy. But insofar as they seemed to speak for the leadership of the Catholic Church, their statement raises questions:
Who issued this statement? For whom do they speak?
The statement was signed by Cardinals Blase Cupich of Chicago, Joseph Tobin of Newark, and Robert McElroy of Washington, DC. All three were raised to the College of Cardinals by Pope Francis. All three were allied in the past with Theodore McCarrick, and favor the sort of international diplomacy that McCarrick promoted. They are generally recognized among the top leaders of the liberal faction within the American Catholic hierarchy. …

Fernando Mendoza Leads Hoosiers to Title, Thanks God for Life’s Challenges
On Monday night (Jan. 19), Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza led the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers to their first-ever college football title. The 22-year-old quarterback was instrumental to his team’s 27-21 victory over the University of Miami in the College Football Playoff (CFP) national championship game.
Before the big game, Mendoza and several teammates knelt in prayer. Afterward, the outspoken Christian, who grew up in Miami, hoisted the CFP trophy in his hometown’s Hard Rock Stadium. “I just give all the glory to God,” an emotional Mendoza said. …
Before the Heisman ceremony, Mendoza admitted he was happy that God had put “bumps and challenges in my life.” The QB, who fought to find a college team and land a starting role, said, “Evidently, those have been blessings because they’ve lit a fire underneath myself in order to make myself work harder and get to the point that I am today.” …
