Justice Department Sues Five Additional States for Failure to Produce Voter Rolls

Today, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division announced it has filed federal lawsuits against five states — Utah, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, and New Jersey — for failure to produce their full voter registration lists upon request. This brings the Justice Department’s nationwide total to 29 states and the District of Columbia.

“Accurate, well-maintained voter rolls are a requisite for the election integrity that the American people deserve,” said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. “This latest series of litigation underscores that This Department of Justice is fulfilling its duty to ensure transparency, voter roll maintenance, and secure elections across the country.”

“The Justice Department will continue to fulfill its oversight role dutifully, neutrally, and transparently wherever Americans vote in federal elections,” said Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “Many state election officials, however, are choosing to fight us in court rather than show their work. We will not be deterred, regardless of party affiliation, from carrying out critical election integrity legal duties.”

In wide-ranging interview, US Ambassador to the Holy See explains principles behind US immigration policy

In a lengthy two-part interview with Crux, Ambassador Brian Burch emphasized that U.S. immigration policy is not rooted in hate or xenophobia, but in moral principles tied to a nation’s duty to protect its citizens.

The U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See spoke for more than an hour with Crux Senior Correspondent Elise Ann Allen in Rome. In the first part of the conversation, Ambassador Burch addressed several contentious issues related to the Trump administration’s policies, ranging from immigration to ongoing global conflicts.

Regarding immigration, Burch explained to Crux that “the important thing here is this is not a set of evil policies rooted in hate or xenophobia. That is a false claim that has never been true.”

Notre Dame: Pro-abortion professor withdraws as institute director

An outspoken abortion advocate will not assume the directorship of an academic institute at the University of Notre Dame, following widespread condemnation of the appointment by students, university donors, and bishops.

Susan Ostermann, a researcher and professor at the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs, had been announced as the incoming director of the Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies within the Keough School, and was due to assume the role in July.

However, in an email to faculty Feb. 26, the dean of the Keough School informed said that Ostermann had “decided not to move forward as director” of the institute, following widespread criticism of her appointment.

Announcing her decision not to go forward in the role, Dean Mary Gallagher praised Ostermann as a “respected scholar of South Asian politics and regulatory governance whose research and teaching reflect the intellectual rigor and interdisciplinary excellence at the heart of both the Liu Institute and the Keough School of Global Affairs.”

Another TX Man Charged After Allegedly Murdering His Unborn Baby With Abortion Pill

Texas man is facing an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly slipped the mother of his child an abortion pill that led to the death of his unborn baby.

Law enforcement in Montgomery County, Texas launched an investigation into the death of stillborn infant Presley Mae after the mother reportedly suffered a “suspicious” miscarriage at a hospital in The Woodlands. Interviews with Presley Mae’s mother revealed that she believed the father of the baby, identified as 25-year-old Jon Rueben Gabriel Demeter, secretly fed her an abortion drug to cause her baby’s premature death.

Murders, kidnappings, threats: a bloody February for Christians amid Syria’s ‘chaos’

The latest victim is a 47-year-old teacher and mother of three, shot to the head in the Wadi al-Nasara region. Activists and NGOs warn of targeted attacks and disturbing disappearances under the influence of Islamic extremism. With the start of Ramadan, shops and restaurants have been attacked for selling alcohol. In Homs, at least 10 Alawites have been killed.

Attacks and violence against Christians in Syria and across the Middle East are rising. A new murder has been blamed on an Islamist group, that of Iman Matanius Jrousi (pictured), a 47-year-old mother of three, originally from the town of Ain al-Rahib, in the Wadi al-Nasara region.

The Christian teacher died on Monday evening, from bullets fired by a terrorist group attacking the Akrama neighbourhood in Homs, where she had moved for work.

This is a new violent episode in the “new” Syria of President Ahmed al-Sharaa and the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) militia against a member of a religious minority, amid growing security threats and repeated attacks on civilians.

As the long trail of blood continues to flow, from the war years under dictator Bashar al-Assad to the struggles the country still faces to rebuild itself, more than 80 per cent of Syria’s Christians have been forced to flee, as former apostolic nuncio, Cardinal Mario Zenari, recently told AsiaNews.
