Rubio’s papal visit stokes talk about his 2028 ambitions

Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s closely watched meeting with Pope Leo XIV on Thursday served as a valuable cooldown after weeks of rising tensions between the Vatican and the White House.

It’s also sparked more speculation about Rubio’s potential presidential ambitions.

While filling in at the White House briefing room earlier this week, Rubio denied that his Vatican City visit was intended to ease the friction created by President Donald Trump’s repeated criticism of the pope over the war in Iran. The rest of his briefing performance won widespread praise within the administration and among Trump allies. His team even cut one answer, in which Rubio described his hope for America, into a campaign-style viral video.

That halo followed Rubio overseas this week; many inside and close to the administration saw the timing of his trip as beneficial, given Trump’s broadsides at the pope.

Democrats were confident of redistricting victory, then the Virginia gamble collapsed

In the bare-knuckle brawl over redistricting ahead of the midterms, the Democratic leaders promised “maximum warfare” to secure an advantage over Republicans in the upcoming elections. The party came up short.

“Maximum warfare, everywhere, all the time,” Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries described his party’s redistricting mantra last month.

But, now it is looking more and more like that war is lost.

The Democrats’ effort to redraw maps in blue states to squeeze out more seats in the House of Representatives was dealt a major blow on Friday when the Supreme Court of Virginia declared their referendum on the commonwealth unconstitutional.

Europeans Are Also Tired Of Dumb Leftists Ruining Everything They Touch – Essay by Chris Bray

Miracles happen: British voters have figured out that they don’t want their country to be systematically ruined by weak-minded leftist trash. The United Kingdom just had local and regional elections, and they went like this:

Reform are basically wiping Labour out in the North. It’s not a defeat. It’s not even a rout. Labour are simply ceasing to exist. @DPJHodges

The left-wing London newspaper The Guardian sees more or less the same point: “Keir Starmer’s leadership on line after Labour’s disastrous election night.”

After years of ugly institutional decline, mass immigration from unvetted Islamist refugees who are eroding British culture, and a long period of completely insane nanny state speech policing, leftist Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is bleeding to death in a confrontation with voters. It’s not the end for Labour as a national party, since the elections aren’t for seats in the House of Commons, but the signs of ruin are unmistakable.
