U.S. pauses Iran strikes for second straight night as talks move in positive direction
What to know about the Iran war today:
Talks between Oman and Iran on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and their respective territorial waterways have made progress, two regional sources told CBS News.
The Iranian military said it halted retaliatory attacks against U.S. allies in the Middle East after Washington paused its strikes on Iran for the last two nights. That pause followed 13 consecutive nights of strikes by the U.S.
A CBS News poll found feelings of uncertainty about the Iran conflict, with most respondents saying it’s more difficult than President Trump expected.

Pope calls for renewed negotiations for a just peace in the Middle East

Pope Leo XIV on Sunday renewed his urgent appeals for peace in the Holy Land and across the Middle East during his Angelus address in Castel Gandolfo, expressing deep concern over the escalating violence and calling for an immediate return to dialogue.
“I continue to follow with deep concern the ongoing and escalating violence in the Holy Land,” the Pope said, noting that “many civilians have recently fallen victim, both in the West Bank and in Gaza.”
He called for “a return to negotiations aimed at achieving a just political solution, founded on the equal dignity and equal rights of every human person, and for the rejection of further military actions and unilateral decisions, particularly those that violate the respect due to and the status quo of the holy sites of every religious faith.”

Trump Delivers a Funny Joke About Nicki Minaj at the WHCD – She Drops a Humorous Reply
… the reboot of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD) was Friday, after it had been postponed because of the assassination attempt at the event in April.
Trump roasted the media with some funny barbs, and the left/liberals had their typical, sour reaction to it all. They all lost their minds when he joked about running again and wore a Trump 2028 hat.
There was also some fun at the event with Oz Pearlman, the mentalist, pulling some amusing tricks, even dragging in the Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche at one point.
Trump treated the moment with the customary WHCD humor, but also seriousness as he recalled the assassination attempt and joked about Nicki Minaj.

Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Indicted In “Biggest Bribery Scandal In State History”
Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, a Democrat, was indicted by an Oahu grand jury on Friday on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit bribery, bribery, and falsifying candidate committee reports. The charges stem from an alleged 2022 scheme, dating to her time as a powerful state lawmaker, to steer state money toward COVID-19 testing contracts during the pandemic. Hawaii News Now reported that legal experts are calling it the biggest bribery scandal in state history.
Luke was one of five people named in the 12-count indictment. The others: Ryan Yamane, a former state representative and ex-director of the Department of Human Services; Tobi Solidum, a businessman and lobbyist; Ford Fuchigami, a Transportation Department official; and Leo Asuncion, a former chair of the state Public Utilities Commission.Luke turned herself in Friday afternoon; her bail was set at $80,000.
Gov. Josh Green did not wait for the case to develop. “The Lieutenant Governor needs to consider formally resigning to address this matter and so that the state of Hawaiʻi can move forward,” Green said in a statement Friday.
According to the indictment, Solidum was working as a lobbyist and consultant to the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii, which held a state contract to run community COVID-19 testing sites. With those contracts set to expire and dependent on the state approving emergency funding, prosecutors allege, Solidum set out to buy influence.
