Albany, New York Woman Charged with ISIS-Inspired Terror Plot Targeting New York State Capitol
Jessica Bowie, 35, of Albany, New York, made her initial appearance today in federal court on charges of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, ISIS.
“As alleged, Bowie plotted to deploy an explosive device at the New York State Capitol, intending to kill public officials and to destroy ‘as much of the building as possible’ before fleeing to ISIS‑controlled territory in Syria,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg. “The National Security Division and our law-enforcement partners are committed to the painstaking work of preventing plots like this from succeeding and securing convictions against those who attempt such plots.”
“The American people represent an undying spirit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — values fundamentally opposed by foreign terrorist organizations such as the one this defendant allegedly pledged her support to,” said First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III for the Northern District of New York. “I am incredibly proud to work side by side with the men and women of the FBI and our law enforcement partners who identified, investigated, and ultimately stopped this defendant before she was able to act on her plot to bring terror to the Capital Region and the United States. My office looks forward to aggressively prosecuting this case and delivering justice for the American people.”

Elon Musk Is Expected to Point His Money Machine at Texas Politics
Sources tell WIRED that Elon Musk is expected to spend up to $200 million in the midterms. It could be a big boost for GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton, who’s struggled to raise cash.
ELON MUSK IS expected to spend big to boost Republicans in the midterms this November, according to Trump officials briefed on the matter.
The precise amount could change, but the officials expect Musk to spend around $100 million to $200 million with a focus on voter turnout in key races, including Texas, where the fate of Republican nominee Ken Paxton could determine which party controls the US Senate.
The planned cash injection—or any in-kind contribution relating to voter turnout—would be a boon for Paxton, who has been vastly outraised in contributions. According to the latest FEC filings, James Talarico had raised roughly $69 million compared to Paxton’s $9 million. …
Democrats in close races have generally outraised their Republican counterparts this cycle, so Paxton is not unique in being behind in fundraising. Numerous candidates are relying on national party committees and outside groups to make up the difference.

AI Data Centers Become a Midterm Flashpoint for Voters
The explosive growth of artificial intelligence data centers is running into growing political backlash, with voters increasingly concerned that their communities could be stuck with higher utility bills and strained water and power supplies.
The issue has become difficult to ignore — and even advertisers are taking notice.
Liquid Death, along with Jason and Travis Kelce’s Garage Beer, released a satirical video Tuesday pledging to “send your pee to the AI data center of your choice,” mocking the enormous water demands associated with those facilities. …
Trump acknowledged Wednesday that the industry “can use a little public relations help,” but argued that communities should embrace the investment.
“I would absolutely want it because the jobs are enormous and the money paid, the taxes paid, are just enormous,” Trump said.
Pressure is building in other states as well.

James O’Keefe Offered Senator Lisa Murkowski’s Brother’s Ballot at Anchorage Polling Station with No ID Required – Murkowski Calls For O’Keefe to be Prosecuted!
James O’Keefe on Thursday released undercover video of an Anchorage, Alaska, poll worker offering him Senator Lisa Murkowski’s brother’s ballot.
Recall that RINO Murkowski was one of the Senators who opposed the SAVE America Act which would require voter ID.
An Anchorage poll worker also offered Lisa Murkowski’s State Director, Karina Waller’s ballot without an ID on Tuesday’s primary.
“I did not check in as Brian Murkowski, cast a ballot, or sign his name. We documented what happened when I gave his name, said I had no ID, and asked whether Brian could still vote,” James O’Keefe said.
“Would it be possible to vote without it [ID]?” O’Keefe asked the poll worker.
“Absolutely possible!” the poll worker said.

RFK Jr. Launches Healthy Cooking Show
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. launched a new online cooking series on Thursday aimed at showing Americans how to prepare healthy, affordable meals using whole ingredients.
The first episode of “The Real Food Show” premiered on YouTube, featuring Kennedy and celebrity chef Andrew Gruel making crispy salmon cakes with apples, white beans, and a green salad.
Kennedy said the series will travel across the country, partnering with chefs to demonstrate nutritious recipes that are both accessible and budget-friendly.
The show builds on Kennedy’s revised federal dietary guidelines unveiled earlier this year, which prioritize vegetables, fruits, proteins, dairy, and healthy fats while encouraging Americans to avoid highly processed foods, added sugars, and refined carbohydrates.
Kennedy argued that healthier eating can help address chronic disease and pushed back against criticism that whole foods are more expensive than processed alternatives.

New Jersey’s governor signs ‘a blank check for the abortion industry’
This legislation (S2260) grants sweeping legal immunity to abortion providers and erects new barriers against accountability for activities the state now broadly labels “reproductive health care,” shielding them from certain investigations, legal actions, and records requests originating outside New Jersey.
The bill also creates a new crime of “interference with reproductive health care services.” “Because terms such as “threat,” “intimidate,” and “coerce” are inherently subjective and rest on individual feelings, this language poses a serious danger to free speech,” said Tasy. “Peaceful sidewalk counseling, prayer, holding signs, or simply offering help and alternatives outside a facility can easily be labeled “intimidation” by someone who claims to feel threatened, leaving pro-life advocates open to criminal charges that are difficult to disprove and chilling constitutionally protected expression.”

Academic who raised plagiarism allegations against Jason Arday suspended by his university
Nathan Cofnas, the U.S. academic who raised plagiarism concerns over the late Cambridge professor Jason Arday, said on Thursday he had been suspended by Belgium’s Ghent University and was under investigation for discrimination.
Arday, once hailed as Cambridge’s youngest Black professor, was found dead, aged 41, in London on Friday, days after resigning from his post. Arday had denied the allegation of plagiarism but acknowledged making mistakes.
“I was just suspended by Ghent University. They will almost certainly fire me,” Cofnas wrote on his X account. In a post a few hours earlier he said he was “under investigation by my university for discriminating against Arday.”
Ghent University said it had suspended Cofnas “as a precautionary measure” pending a preliminary disciplinary investigation, but did not go into further detail on the reasons.
It could not comment any further “to safeguard the confidentiality of the personnel file and the disciplinary proceedings,” it said in an emailed statement.

Threatened harvest and daily harassment rattle West Bank’s last Christian village
For the past three months, Israeli settlers have been bringing their sheep herd up to the Kaabnah family compound just outside Taybeh village twice a day like clockwork, in the morning and in the evening.
Sometimes, like last week, they violently break through the fencing and allow their animals to roam freely in the family’s compound, clashing with protective presence volunteers who come to provide support to the family.
On Aug. 16, two masked settlers sprinted menacingly around the perimeter of the compound and threw rocks at the two tin structures where the families of the Nayef and Suleiman Kaabnah live, and at family members.
“Every day they come,” Nayef Kaabnah, 55, reported to the Israeli police in a phone call after the settlers left following 1.5 hours of harassment. “We call the police and tell you they are throwing stones, and you don’t come. You say to come file an incident report. We have filed reports more than 10 times.”
He told OSV News attacks by the extremist settlers from illegal settlement outposts — often euphemistically called “hilltop youth” — began about three years ago following the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on southern Israeli communities and the ensuing Gaza war. The attacks have intensified over the past three months, he said.

Lebanese president meets Pope, asking for continued Vatican support
Meeting Pope Leo today, Lebanon’s president thanked the Pontiff for his support of the nation and asked him to back Lebanon’s goal of a “complete Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territory”.
Leo XIV met with President Joseph Aoun for the fourth time on August 20, as the Pope hosted the Lebanese President at the Vatican for a private audience. The pair have met previously at the Vatican twice, and then most extensively during Leo’s apostolic voyage to Turkey and Lebanon in November and December last year.
The half hour meeting between the Pope and Aoun was followed – as normal – by a separate meeting between Aoun and the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin, and the Vatican’s foreign minister Archbishop Richard Gallagher.
Speaking to Pope Leo, Aoun renewed his thanks to the Holy See for its support of Lebanon. This support included assisting the nation “in achieving its demands to end the Israeli occupation and attacks on its territory, and called on him to continue supporting these demands, foremost among which is compelling Israel to implement the provisions of the framework agreement, immediately cease its attacks on villages and infrastructure in the south as well as on civilians, and withdraw from the areas it occupies.”

Historic film of Pope Pius X walking in Vatican Gardens a year before his death in 1914
Pius X was known for his firm demeanour and sense of personal poverty, reflected by his membership of the Third Order of Saint Francis. He regularly gave sermons from the pulpit, a rare practice at the time. After the 1908 Messina earthquake he filled the Apostolic Palace with refugees, long before the Italian government acted. He rejected any kind of favours for his family; his close relatives chose to remain in poverty, living near Rome.
After his death, a strong cult of devotion followed his reputation for piety and holiness. He was beatified in 1951 and canonized on 29 May 1954 by Pope Pius XII.

The Oath Against Modernism required by Pope Pius X (Instituted in 1910 and replaced in 1967)
‘The oath affirmed that God can be known by natural reason from creation, that miracles and prophecies prove revelation, that the Church was founded by the historical Christ on Peter, that dogmas do not evolve in meaning, that faith is an intellectual assent to external truth, and that sacred tradition is divine rather than a merely human historical development.‘
