Trump arrives in Ireland to meet leaders before attending Irish Open golf tournament
US President Donald Trump arrived in Dublin on Saturday, where he will meet Ireland’s leaders before attending a golf tournament at one of his resorts, a detour from his recent focus on the Iran war and his party’s effort to maintain power in November’s midterm elections.
The meetings with Ireland’s president and prime minister are not part of an official state visit.
But coming after this week’s Republican convention and the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the talks could include politically sensitive topics such as economic issues and Irish leaders’ concerns over the Iran war.

‘God heard people’s prayers’: UK Parliament rejects assisted suicide bill in stunning reversal
The House of Commons on Friday narrowly voted against the legalization of medically assisted suicide, with 286 votes against and 270 in favor.
The bill was put forward by Labour’s Lauren Edwards MP, however, as an issue of conscience, MPs were not expected to vote along party lines. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has indicated that while he favors the principle of assisted suicide, improving the country’s patchy palliative care system must come first.
Earlier this year another attempt to legalize assisted suicide failed. That bill, put forward by another Labour MP, Kim Leadbeater, narrowly passed the House of Commons but ran out of time in the House of Lords as peers raised concerns about inadequate safeguards on the bill.
Some MPs who voted for the Leadbeater bill openly declared their opposition to Edwards’ bill, which is functionally the same.
Speaking during the pre-vote debate in the House of Commons, Labour MP Janet Daby said she had “nightmares about dying and death” after voting for the Leadbeater bill.

Sheen continues to speak to young Catholics. He was fiery without being cruel, polished without seeming artificial and uncompromising without losing sight of the audience in front of him.
When Tim and Katie Blatchford got married in August 2025, they wanted to include a prayer on their wedding card that was slightly different from the usual selections.
They chose the prayer for the canonization of Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen.
The Gen Z couple, who are in their 20s, had chosen Sheen as the patron of their marriage. During a trip to New York, they visited St. Patrick’s Cathedral and prayed Sheen’s canonization prayer at the site where he had been buried prior to being reinterred in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois.
“It’s just stuck with us ever since then,” Katie said. “And we’ve tried to pray it regularly since then.”

NYT: 25 Years Later, The Real Victims Of 9/11 Are Muslims by Brianna Lyman
Sept. 11 is the anniversary of 2,977 innocent people murdered by 19 Islamic terrorists and countless families forced to live with that loss in perpetuity.
Twenty-five years ago, 2,977 souls were murdered in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. They weren’t the only victims, either. Their parents, spouses, siblings, loved ones, communities, and every single person affected by their loss were victims too. But according to The New York Times, the real victims were — and continue to be — Muslims.
One article from Maya King and Jeffrey C. Mays reads “Facing Islamophobia, Mamdani Keeps Focus on 9/11 Victims.”
“As New York’s first Muslim mayor, Mr. Mamdani has been forced to navigate a delicate dynamic. He must speak about Sept. 11 as the city’s top elected official, but also as a member of a religious group that has faced hostility and suspicion since the attacks, and is still being vilified by right-wing factions of the Republican Party,” King and Mays write.
The Times article then quotes Husein Yatabarry, executive director of the Muslim Community Network, who claims that “there’s a right-wing angst to bring back that level of Islamophobia against prominent Muslims in political life or even in regular daily life.”

King Jan III Sobieski invoked the name and protection of the Virgin Mary during his march to Vienna and on the morning of the decisive battle. En route to Vienna, Sobieski stopped with his army at the Shrine of Our Lady of Częstochowa to beg for her blessing and intercession. As the Polish Winged Hussars charged the Muslim forces, the soldiers cried out, ‘Jesus and Mary, save us!’
