Today in St. Louis, Missouri at 2 PM (CT) the solemn beatification of the Venerable Servant of God Fulton John Sheen, Titular Archbishop of Newport, Bishop of Rochester will take place. The representative of the Holy Father will be Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, of the Philippines.

On October 11, 1979, Pope John Paul II wrote to Fulton Sheen, congratulating him on his six decades as a priest: “God called you to proclaim in an extraordinary way his dynamic word . . . in these six decades of your priestly service, God has touched the lives of millions of the men and women of our time.” Sheen wrote back, “I bow in humble gratitude for the Pontifical approval of my ministry of the Word.”
On September 24, a man already beloved by multitudes in the Catholic Church will finally receive the title of “Blessed.” Though not yet canonized, he is already a household name throughout the United States. He was the first television evangelist in history, with an influence so pivotal that the FBI kept a file on him for much of his life and America magazine called him “the greatest evangelizer in the history of the Catholic Church in the United States.” Perhaps America’s favorite priest, he is Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
On May 8, 1895, the first of four sons was born to Newton Morris Sheen and Delia Fulton in the second-floor apartment above Mr. Sheen’s hardware store in El Paso, Illinois. He was christened Peter John Sheen in the diocese of Peoria. Unfortunately, he was sickly as an infant and was usually taken care of by Delia’s side of the family, and so, when enrolled in school, he was enrolled as a Fulton. He eventually went by Fulton Sheen.
As a boy, Fulton never desired any path other than the priesthood. When he was eight years old, he was altar serving for Mass with Bishop John Lancaster Spalding—the historic first bishop of Peoria and co-founder of the Catholic University of America (CUA)—as the celebrant. A cruet was dropped and smashed into pieces, and Bishop Spalding had a talk with the young future bishop after Mass. Somewhat out of the blue, Spalding predicted to the small, shaking altar boy that he would one day study in Louvain, Belgium. And then he said, “Someday, you will be just as I am.”

Bishop Barron warns communism ‘making a comeback’ in America ahead of Fulton Sheen beatification
Barron urged Catholic leaders to follow Sheen’s example and speak out against the ideology’s re-emergence in America
As tens of thousands are expected to gather in St. Louis on Thursday for Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s beatification, one church leader is sounding the alarm on the rise of communism in America and urging Catholics to embrace the late archbishop’s fierce opposition to the ideology.
In an exclusive video obtained by Fox News Digital, Bishop Robert Barron, bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester in Minnesota and founder of Word on Fire Ministries, hails Sheen as “one of the great voices against communism in mid-20th century America,” a message he says remains relevant today.
“Now, you don’t need me to tell you that communism is making a comeback right now in our country,” Barron said in front of the Gateway Arch on Tuesday.

Trump Admin Releases Blueprint To Protect Election Infrastructure Ahead Of Midterms
The 2026 Election Infrastructure Security Plan includes numerous tools and services that election officials can use to protect election infrastructure in the midterms.
The Trump administration released a “comprehensive” plan on Thursday that U.S. election officials can use to safeguard the integrity of the voting process during the upcoming midterms, The Federalist has learned.
“Election security is national security,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “This plan, which will be implemented in full, is crucial to the security, freeness, and fairness of choosing the leaders of our country. Making America safe again isn’t just done at the border, in our streets, and on the coast — it’s also done in protecting the integrity of American elections.”

The Feast of Our Lady of Ransom, celebrated on September 24, honors the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title associated with the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy, or Mercedarians, founded by St. Peter Nolasco in the thirteenth century. The order was established for the redemption of Christians held captive by the Muslims, and its members devoted themselves to obtaining the freedom of these captives, sometimes even offering themselves in their place. Under this title, Our Lady is venerated as the merciful Mother and patroness of those who are enslaved or oppressed, and the feast recalls her powerful intercession for the liberation of souls from every form of captivity, especially the slavery of sin.
