Sheen—the Catholic priest who pioneered the use of media to speak the truth, preach the Gospel, and bring many souls closer to Christ. Today, Archbishop Sheen will become the first-ever American-born bishop to be beatified by the Catholic Church.
Born on the plains of central Illinois at the twilight of the nineteenth century, Fulton Sheen was blessed with extraordinary intelligence, good humor, and eloquence. After his ordination to the priesthood, he spent more than two decades teaching, lecturing, and broadcasting on the radio before he was consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of New York in 1951. With a growing reputation as a world-class preacher and evangelist, he then launched his renowned national television series, Life Is Worth Living, which soon captivated the entire country.
On his show, Archbishop Sheen lectured before a live audience on an array of theological, philosophical, and political topics. Dressed in striking priestly robes and armed with only a chalk stick and blackboard, he quickly emerged as a primetime sensation—boldly bringing the teachings of Christianity to a world threatened by the titanic forces of communism.

Today, the Catholic Church declares Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen “Blessed.” For those of us in the Diocese of Peoria, where Sheen grew up, discovered his vocation, and was ordained a priest, this is a day of extraordinary joy. But his Beatification is much more than a celebration of a remarkable life from decades ago. It carries a life-changing message for all of us right now.
Fulton Sheen lived through a world that knew darkness. Ordained a priest in 1919, in the aftermath of the First World War and a devastating global pandemic, he witnessed the Great Depression, the rise of fascism and communism, another world war, the Holocaust, the atomic age, the Cold War and enormous cultural upheaval. Sheen knew the anxieties of his age, yet he never surrendered to despair. That may be among the most important things he can teach us today.
Sheen could look directly at what was wrong with the world without losing sight of what was right with God. He could speak about sin without abandoning the sinner, confront evil without becoming consumed by it, and recognize the brokenness of the human heart while believing in its capacity for conversion, holiness and love. His was not an easy optimism that pretended everything would somehow work itself out. His was Christian hope, rooted in the conviction that Jesus Christ had entered into the deepest darkness of human existence and conquered it. For Sheen, the Cross changed everything.

Elon Musk May Soon Own Part of CNN
Paramount Global is exploring a possible equity investment from Elon Musk as the media company works to strengthen its finances following its takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery, according to people familiar with the discussions, who spoke with Semafor. The talks come as executives seek additional sources of capital to support the combined entity, which now includes major assets such as CNN, CBS, HBO and a vast film and television library.
Paramount Chief Executive David Ellison has considered assembling a syndicate of wealthy individual investors to provide fresh equity. Musk’s name has surfaced among those under discussion. The potential involvement of the Tesla and SpaceX chief is tied in part to longstanding personal and business ties between Musk and Larry Ellison, the Oracle founder and father of the Paramount CEO. Larry Ellison has played a central role in financing the Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition, personally guaranteeing more than $40 billion of the equity portion of the deal. Those connections, along with Ellison’s earlier investments in Tesla and in Musk’s 2022 privatization of X, formerly Twitter, form the backdrop for the current conversations.

Trump Asks Supreme Court to Restart Deportations to ‘Safe Third Countries’
The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court to let it resume deporting illegal aliens to “Safe Third Countries” if migrants cannot be sent to their home countries.
In an emergency filing Thursday afternoon, Solicitor General D. John Sauer asked the justices to put a hold on a February ruling by U.S. District Judge Brian Murphy, a Biden appointee, that threw out the Department of Homeland Security’s third-country removal policy. The 42-page application is the third time the administration has brought this fight to the high court.
The so-called “Safe Third Countries” are nations that were never named on a migrant’s removal order. The administration relies on them because many home governments simply refuse to take their own citizens back.

Ohio Pro-Lifers Demand Action After Toledo Doctor Sentenced to 6 Months in Abortion Pill Case
The saga involving a Toledo-area doctor who forced his girlfriend to ingest abortion-causing drugs has come to an end with Dr. Hassan-James Abbas receiving six months of jail time, plus two years of probation. The sentence is unacceptable to Ohio pro-lifers, who are urging the Department of Justice to step in.
On Tuesday, Center for Christian Virtue President Aaron Baer was joined by other Ohio leaders who addressed the tragic incident.
Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, was similarly outraged and penned a letter to Attorney General Todd Blanche that same day calling for action.
The incident took place in late 2024, when Abbas was in a relationship with the victim, Jona Affholder, after separating from his wife.
When Affholder informed Abbas on Dec. 7, 2024, that she was pregnant, he told her to get an abortion, though she did not want one.
The next day, Abbas acquired pills from an out-of-state telemedicine abortion provider and used his estranged wife’s information to do so, using his own credit card, email address, and delivery address. Three days later, the drugs arrived. …

A knife-wielding Ukrainian man attacked clergy and worshippers at a Benedictine abbey in southern Poland, killing a priest and injuring four other people.
