IN IOWA STRONGHOLD, TRUMP URGES REPUBLICANS TO TURN OUT AND VOTE [ARTICLE]
President Donald Trump on Thursday tried to galvanize Republican voters in Iowa, a state he won by double digits two years ago but now faces a tougher battle in the November midterm elections due to dissatisfaction with rising prices and the Iran war.
The Midwestern stop is part of Trump’s push through states Republicans usually expect to win, but where polling points to some tight races.
Trump held a rally in Sioux City as Republicans defend a Senate seat, three House districts and the governor’s office, giving Democrats an opening after years of Republican gains.
“Pretend I’m on the ballot, because if you get out, we’re going to win big,” Trump told the crowd gathered in an airport hangar.
He has spoken repeatedly with confidence about his connection with voters, though his approval rating has fallen and some Republicans Trump is trying to help have broken with him over the Iran war, as higher fuel and grocery prices deepen voters’ economic worries.

JD VANCE HOLDS NORTH PLATTE RALLY FOR NEBRASKA REPUBLICANS AHEAD OF ELECTION DAY [ARTICLE]
U.S. Vice President JD Vance held a campaign rally in North Platte for Republican candidates as Election Day approaches.
Vance’s visit followed President Donald Trump’s visit to Grand Island earlier this month.
At the rally, Vance announced a $1.3 billion investment to aid fertilizer manufacturing in Nebraska.
The vice president said one of the two companies receiving funding, TalusAg, is opening two manufacturing facilities in Nebraska.
The visits brought two of the Republican Party’s highest-profile figures to deep-red Nebraska in the final stretch of the campaign as both parties look to turn out voters in a potentially competitive midterm election.

JAMES TALARICO WANTS TO WIN TEXAS IN REPUBLICAN DRAG BY JULIANNA FRIEMAN [ARTICLE]
Why does a Democrat running for Senate in Texas need to borrow the cultural packaging of conservatism?
Democrat Senate hopeful James Talarico doesn’t want you to change his mind. He wants you to change yours, and he’s betting Texas Republicans are gullible enough to fall for the packaging.
Conservative commentator Steven Crowder has filed a lawsuit against CNN and Jubilee over their use of “Change My Mind,” the slogan Crowder made famous through his political debate videos.
According to Newsweek, Crowder says his trademark brand and format are being used to help Talarico ingratiate himself with conservative voters. Crowder initially threatened legal action against Talarico, CNN, and Jubilee, but the reported lawsuit names the two media companies as defendants. The Louder with Crowder host also argued in an episode of his show last week that CNN is peddling the falsehood that the format, which he created in 2017, is a “unique” concept that will “change town halls” in the future.

ABDUL EL-SAYED COMPARES HIMSELF TO JFK [POST]

ABDUL EL-SAYED, YOU’RE NO JACK KENNEDY BY ASHLIE MCGUIRE [ARTICLE]
By claiming the mantle of JFK, El-Sayed implies his critics are bigots.
Unfortunately, Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed was being serious when he compared himself to JFK earlier this week. This was the second time El-Sayed made the comparison in a matter of days, and it’s patently absurd.
MS NOW correspondent Ali Velshi asked El-Sayed on live television, “You get a whole lot of questions about the Muslim Brotherhood, and terrorism, and radical Islamism…what’s your best response right now?”
El-Sayed responded, “Look, at the end of the day, the whole reason this question is being asked is to insinuate that somehow I have dual loyalties.”
He then invoked his fellow Democrat, perhaps one of the party’s most famous and beloved, and said, “When John F. Kennedy ran for president, he was asked whether his allegiance would be to the Constitution, or to the Pope and the Vatican, because he would have been the first Catholic president.”

SUPREME COURT ALLOWS NEW HAMPSHIRE TO RESTRICT USE OF STUDENT IDS IN VOTING [ARTICLE]
The Supreme Court on Thursday afternoon cleared the way for New Hampshire to bar the use of student IDs as the valid photo ID required to obtain a ballot there. In a brief, unsigned order, the justices paused a ruling by a federal judge in New Hampshire, citing the principle (often known as the Purcell principle) that “lower federal courts should ordinarily not alter the election rules on the eve of an election.”
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the lone dissenter. She contended that U.S. District Judge Joseph Laplante had merely “issued a targeted order” that was “reasonably designed to address alleged misinformation, not to change the law.”
Legislators in New Hampshire passed the law, known as HB 323, in April, and it went into effect in June. The Coalition for Open Democracy, a nonprofit that (among other things) helps high schools to promote and run voter-registration drives, went to federal court, where it argued that the law violates the Constitution because it burdens the right to vote and because it was intended to discriminate against young voters.

BUKELE CLEANED UP EL SALVADOR AND IS NOW TACKLING HAITIAN GANGS [ARTICLE]
El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele announced on Oct. 21 that he had launched a military operation to rescue four Salvadoran aviation technicians kidnapped by gangs in Haiti. Addressing Haitian gang leaders directly, Bukele warned, “We have already dealt with the gangs in El Salvador, and we can deal with you too,” according to the Haitian Times. The statement carries weight because of what Bukele accomplished at home.
In 2015, El Salvador’s homicide rate stood at 103 per 100,000 inhabitants, among the highest in the world outside a war zone. Bukele took office in June 2019, and in March 2022 his government declared a state of exception against the MS-13 and Barrio 18 gangs. According to figures presented by El Salvador’s Security Cabinet, annual homicides fell from 3,962 in 2017 to 2,398 in 2019, 495 in 2022, 114 in 2024, and 82 in 2025.
Justice and Security Minister Gustavo Villatoro reported a 2025 rate of 1.3 per 100,000, down from 1.9 the previous year, and stated that all 82 cases had been resolved with arrests. Of those killings, Villatoro said 43 stemmed from social disputes, 31 from family disputes, and eight from general crime, with none attributed to gangs.

FAILED FRENCH PRESIDENT SAYS DON’T BELIEVE YOUR EYES ON RIOTS, IT’S ALL AI [ARTICLE]
With French cities reeling from looting, arson and attacks on police, Emmanuel Macron has lashed out at foreign leaders, linking the unrest to mass immigration and calling their warnings ‘stupid’. He also claimed that contrary footage was AI-generated misinformation, even as the riots began in immigrant-heavy districts while similar unrest in Italy showed large immigrant-background involvement.
With French cities reeling from mass looting, arson and attacks on police, President Emmanuel Macron has found a more convenient target than the rioters themselves: foreign leaders highlighting the role of mass immigration in the chaos France has faced over the past several weeks.
Speaking in Qatar on Wednesday, 21 October, he branded their warnings ‘stupid’, stating—falsely—that footage from the riots showing otherwise was AI-generated misinformation.
Macron claimed that allegations that France had been ‘invaded by hordes of migrants and Islamists’ were ‘completely false’. Asked whether he was referring to US President Donald Trump, he replied: ‘Among others.’ He subsequently accused foreign leaders of exploiting France’s domestic crisis for electoral purposes, declaring that those speaking negatively about the country did not love it.

HUNGARIANS CELEBRATE THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE 1956 REVOLUTION AGAINST SOVIET COMMUNISM [POST]

WHY WE CAN’T FORGET OCTOBER 1956 BY LILLA NÓRA KISS [ARTICLE]
We must remember the past if we’re to avoid making the same mistakes and falling for the same false promises. That’s why students need to know about the short-lived Hungarian Revolution.
Seventy years ago today, students at Budapest’s Technical University gathered to write their demands for freedom. They wanted uninvited Soviet troops out of Hungary and free elections with competing parties. They demanded independent courts to review political trials and called for freedom of expression and a free press. They wanted a say in their country’s future.
Under communist rule, all those basic freedoms were “counter-revolutionary” demands. The students’ demonstration on October 23 developed into a national uprising. Protesters cut the communist emblem from the heart of the Hungarian flag, leaving a hole that became a symbol of resistance in and beyond Hungary. A small nation had stood up against the Soviet behemoth.
The Soviet assault launched on November 4 crushed the revolution with brutal force. More than 2,500 Hungarians were killed and roughly 200,000 fled their homeland. By the end of 1957, freedom-loving Americans had admitted approximately 38,000 Hungarian refugees through an official emergency program. Sympathy for Hungary gave thousands an opportunity to rebuild their lives in the land of the free.

OCTOBER 23 – THE AMAZING STORY OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO AND THE SIEGE OF BELGRADE [ARTICLE]
His father had come to Naples in the train of Louis of Anjou, hence is supposed to have been of French blood, though some say he was of German origin. His father dying early, John owed his education to his mother. She had him at first instructed at home and then sent him to study law at Perugia, where he achieved great success under the eminent legist, Pietro de Ubaldis.
In 1412 he was appointed governor of Perugia by Ladislaus, King of Naples, who then held that city of the Holy See. As governor he set himself against civic corruption and bribery. War broke out in 1416 between Perugia and the Malatesta. John was sent as ambassador to propose peace to the Malatesta, who however cast him into prison. It was during this imprisonment that he began to think more seriously about his soul. He decided eventually to give up the world and become a Franciscan Friar, owing to a dream he had in which he saw St. Francis and was warned by the saint to enter the Franciscan Order. John had married a wealthy lady of Perugia immediately before the war broke out, but as the marriage was not consummated he obtained a dispensation to enter religion, which he did 4 October, 1416. …
