Trump administration asks Supreme Court to clear the way for new mail-in voting restrictions
The Trump administration on Monday asked the Supreme Court to allow it to fully implement an executive order signed by President Donald Trump that seeks to impose additional restrictions on mail-in voting. U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer called an order by a federal judge in Massachusetts that paused portions of the order in 23 states and the District of Columbia “extraordinary,” and he argued that it “flouts settled” doctrines governing when courts can weigh in on a dispute.
Sauer also asked the court to issue an immediate administrative stay – an order that temporarily puts the lower court’s order on hold while the justices consider the government’s request.
Trump signed the executive order at the center of the case, titled “Ensuring Citizenship Verification and Integrity in Federal Elections” on March 31 of this year. Among other things, the order instructs the U.S. Postal Service to propose rules for mail-in and absentee ballots, and it directs the Department of Homeland Security to compile “state citizenship lists” – lists of individuals in each state who are U.S. citizens over the age of 18. Under the order, the rules issued by the USPS must provide that the Postal Service can only send mail-in ballots to voters whose names appear on the state citizenship lists.
A group of 23 states and the District of Columbia, led by California, went to federal court in Massachusetts to challenge the implementation of the order. They argued that the order conflicts with provisions in the Constitution that give states the power to determine voter eligibility and to set the “Times, Places, and Manner” of holding congressional elections.

Trump Talks Auto Industry, Rallies for Republican Candidates [in Michigan]
The American auto industry is protected and thriving—and that’s thanks to Republicans in Congress doing their job, President Donald Trump said in a rally on July 27.
Trump spoke at the General Motors facility in Milford, Michigan on Monday ahead of the Senate primary debate to come later that evening.
The president emphasized that America is doing well, attributing much of the credit to Republicans in Congress, and inviting several Republican candidates on stage.
“And thanks to our Republican majorities in Congress, we actually made interest on auto loans fully tax deductible—but only if the car is made in America,” Trump said. “If it’s not made in America, we have no interest in doing that.”
With early voting in Michigan already underway, Reps. Lisa McClain and Tom Barrett, U.S. Senate candidate Mike Rogers, and gubernatorial candidate John James all briefly addressed the crowd during the rally.
Trump made it clear that he could not have improved America without Republicans like these four running for election, all of whom he has endorsed.

As Mamdani promises 30% grocery discounts, survivors of communism warn of bread lines
New York City has committed $70 million to five taxpayer-backed supermarkets, but the continuing subsidy remains unknown — and critics who lived under communist rule say government food retail carries familiar dangers.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced July 27 that five city-owned grocery stores will offer produce, meat, seafood, and other staples at prices 30% below market rates, advancing one of his most controversial socialist campaign promises as survivors of communist regimes renewed warnings about government-controlled retail.
Under the newly detailed N.Y.C. Groceries program, the city will provide grocery-ready locations, cover rent and property taxes, finance construction, create a common public brand, and subsidize a discounted basket of food. Private contractors will handle sourcing, staffing, stocking, security, and other daily operations under pricing, labor, and performance rules imposed by City Hall.
The arrangement makes the stores city-owned, taxpayer-subsidized, and privately operated. They will not constitute a full Soviet-style monopoly over the food supply, but neither will they compete on the same terms as the private supermarkets and neighborhood bodegas expected to operate without taxpayer-covered rent, taxes, construction, and price reductions.

You can’t establish a new constitutional order without first dismantling the one already in place.
Imagine a butcher shop hires a vegan whose stated mission is to poison the meat supply and destroy the business. Or picture an oil company appoints a CEO who campaigns to eliminate the oil industry. No sane institution voluntarily empowers those who pledge its destruction. Yet that’s exactly the threat facing our republic.
Today, Americans face an unprecedented constitutional question. What happens when candidates for public office belong to an organization that rejects the constitutional order? If elected, how can these individuals honestly swear a sacred oath to support and defend the Constitution when their own organization calls for its replacement?
This concern is no longer hypothetical. Card-carrying members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), including Melat Kiros, Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, Chris Rabb, and others, continue to win Democratic primaries. From Wounds to Renewal: Two Women Form Religious Association of Listening to Victims of Sexual Abuse
Sisters Theresa Aletheia Noble and Danielle Victoria Lussier said in interviews that they are seeking members for a new religious association dedicated to healing those wounded by members of the Church.
Faced with the need for healing among adult Catholics harmed physically and spiritually by members of the Church, the two women are the founders of the Sisters of the Little Way of Beauty, Truth and Goodness, which is a private association of the faithful intending to become a religious institute approved by the Diocese of Lexington, Kentucky. They are actively raising awareness and seeking funds.
Speaking outside of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish church in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Lussier greeted parishioners and said, “We’ve been connecting with people across the world and studied in Rome under Fr. Hans Zollner,” and have heard dozens of testimonies of spiritual, psychological, and sexual abuse of adults. She said Zollner’s resignation from the Pontifical Commission for Protection of Minors in 2023 showed how it is possible to remain dignified and remain in the Church while insisting on transparency in protecting the vulnerable.
Noble said that about a third of the survivors who contact the sisters are survivors of abuse in religious life. Based on the experience of speaking with these survivors, she believes that the vow of obedience should be explored theologically in light of the abuses taking place in religious communities.

The occupied West Bank is in the grip of a sweeping escalation, as Israeli settlers seize Palestinian homes and force families out at gunpoint, a comprehensive military closure carves the territory into isolated enclaves, and armored vehicles push into the heart of Nablus. The Vulnerable People Project (VPP) is receiving on- the-ground reporting as the crisis deepens and calls for immediate international intervention to halt the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians.
The escalation follows Friday’s deadly confrontation in the village of Tell, southwest of Nablus, in which four Palestinians and two Israelis were killed and which triggered explicit calls from senior Israeli ministers for collective punishment against Palestinian communities. In the days since, the machinery of that punishment has moved from rhetoric to reality across the territory.
Settlers seize homes and force out families. In Jalud, south of Nablus, the family of Mahmoud al-Tubasi was driven from its home on Wednesday, July 22, after a siege that had stretched on for more than two weeks. Settlers operating from two outposts established around the family’s property cut off electricity, water, food, and medical supplies, blocked the access roads, and repeatedly attacked the home — including by arson — before storming the property and taking it over, all under the watch of Israeli forces. Raad Nasser, head of the Jalud village council, confirmed that armed settlers had blockaded every road and left the family completely isolated. The seizure clears the way for settlers to take the village’s eastern lands. In Qarawat Bani Hassan, in Salfit, settlers took over a Palestinian home still under construction and raised the Israeli flag over the private property.

Civilizations are not often measured in terms of hope. We are more inclined to judge them by military might, political stability, or economic outputs – all of which are fair metrics, in a way. Yet at a moment when many argue that Europe and the United States are forgetting their civilizational roots and in need of a revival of faith, love, and law, there’s a deeper, lingering question: What kind of future do our people believe is possible?
As an American who travels to Europe frequently, I have noticed how many Americans visit Europe seeking inspiration from her Christian past. Yet when it comes to the present, I have also noticed how many Americans comment that Europe appears worse off in terms of economics, the practice of the Faith, respect for life, birthrates, and optimism about the future.
And yet, as true as this might be, I’ve found increasing reason for hope, not because of Europe’s institutions, economies, or politics, but because I’ve come to know her Christians. …
