Karoline Leavitt’s advice to successor on last day at White House: Trump is his ‘own best spokesperson’
Departing White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt offered a simple piece of advice to her yet-to-be-named successor: remember that President Donald Trump is his “own best spokesperson.”
Leavitt told reporters on Thursday outside the West Wing that she and White House communications director Steven Cheung joke that Trump is the “true communications director and press secretary.”
“Just understanding that, knowing that, and believing in the mission,” she said. “I think you guys can all see I believe so much in my heart about what this president is doing every day, the policies he’s enacting. It’s been an honor to speak on behalf of him, and to understand his thinking, and relay it to all of you, but also to the country over the past 20 months, and then again before that on the campaign.”

Massachusetts High Court Rules Against Saints Statues
The case heads back to a lower state court — and potentially to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Two statues of Catholic saints will remain off of a Massachusetts city’s new public safety building for the foreseeable future, now that the state’s highest court has upheld a lower court order prohibiting them from being erected.
The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled Thursday that the $850,000, 10-foot-tall bronze statues of St. Michael and St. Florian are so closely allied with Catholicism that putting them on a public building would amount to “government preferential treatment of a particular religion,” thus violating the state Constitution.
“The likelihood that these statues of religious figures closely associated with the Catholic faith could be viewed by the public as endorsement of a particular religion, and thus subordination of others, is enhanced by the fact that the statues are not part of a larger collection of statues and monuments that includes nonreligious ones, or statues of figures of particular importance to other religions,” the state’s highest court said in a 34-page decision.

As a young man, Thomas embraced radical leftist politics and participated in a protest against the Vietnam War at Harvard Square in April 1970. The demonstration descended into an angry riot, forcing him to confront where rage and political resentment were leading him.
“I think that was the Road to Damascus moment. That’s the moment where you look into the abyss, and it looks back,” Thomas said. He admitted that he “couldn’t answer why” he had behaved as he did during the chaos.
Exhausted and unable to sleep afterward, Thomas walked to a chapel and prayed for God to remove the hatred from his heart.

Taybeh Christians seek action after Israeli envoy downplays severity of attacks
Christian leaders in the Holy Land said the Israeli ambassador to the Holy See’s characterization was inconsistent with the documented pattern of attacks and incursions affecting Taybeh.
Comments by Israel’s ambassador to the Holy See, Yaron Sideman, about the West Bank town of Taybeh have drawn attention among local Church leaders after he condemned the violence there but disputed accounts of its seriousness.
Speaking at the Meeting for Friendship Among Peoples in Rimini, Italy, Sideman said that “any act of violence against anyone is unacceptable” and that those responsible should be dealt with according to the law. However, he added that the situation in Taybeh had been “described in far more serious terms than it actually is.”
Sideman maintained that Israel is governed by the rule of law and guarantees religious freedom. He also assured pilgrims that visiting the holy sites is safe and encouraged them to return to the Holy Land.
The Observatory for the Christian Presence in the Holy Land said the ambassador’s characterization was inconsistent with the documented pattern of attacks and incursions affecting Taybeh — the last town in the
West Bank with an entirely Christian population.
