‘WE LOVE HIM BECAUSE HE LOVES US’: CROWDS PACK TRUMP RALLY IN MICHIGAN [ARTICLE]

A capacity crowd came out in support of President Donald Trump in Port Huron, Michigan, known as the “Maritime Capital of the Great Lakes,” on Sunday. Rally attendees were in line at daybreak to see the president, who made the appearance following former President Barack Hussein Obama’s appearance in Detroit a day earlier.

One attendee explained why she stood in line to wait with thousands of others. “We love him because he loves us. He has given up his life to come and save us from the evil people who have come to take over our country, and we love him for that,” the attendee said.

Obama came to boost Abdul El-Sayed, the Muslim Socialist with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, while Trump’s appearance aims to push Republican Mike Rogers across the finish line in one of the most closely watched campaigns of the cycle. …

The Sunday rally is believed to be the first visit from a sitting president to St. Clair County, wrote MIRS News reporter Samantha Shriber on X.

CATHOLIC BISHOPS REGRET WHITE HOUSE PRAYER PHOTO WITH TRUMP [ARTICLE]

Two Catholic bishops have expressed regret about agreeing to a White House meeting that produced a publicly distributed photo of them praying with President Donald Trump.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob, in a statement titled “A Public Apology,” said Sunday that he had received many questions and comments — some of them distraught — about the meeting on Thursday which he and 11 other bishops attended.

He said the meeting was speedily publicized by the White House with photos and a video, without consent of the participants, and less than two weeks away from the midterm elections.

“I feel a heavy sadness, not only over the pain I caused, but also for the fact that something so sacred to a group of religious leaders, prayer to our Heavenly Father, would be manipulated in that way,” Grob said.

The bishop of Des Moines, Iowa, William Joensen, also issued a statement making clear he felt the White House had taken advantage of the bishops.

MARXIST LULA BEATS BOLSONARO IN BRAZIL PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AFTER UNPRECEDENTED VOTING TIME EXTENSION [ARTICLE]

Socialist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 80, was elected president of Brazil for a fourth term in Sunday’s runoff election, narrowly defeating conservative Sen. Flávio Bolsonaro in a tightly contested race in which both sides alleged irregularities and the Supreme Court intervened to extend voting.

At press time, with 99.76 percent remaining, Lula is in the lead with 51.75 percent, or about 64.066 million, of the votes. Sen. Bolsonaro has accumulated 48.25 percent of the vote, or about 59.725 million votes, creating a gap that authorities have deemed too large to overcome with the remaining vote.

Lula’s return to power in Brazil in 2022 was historic, as the radical Marxist founder of the Workers’ Party (PT) is a convicted felon who was sentenced to upwards of 20 years in prison in 2019 on charges of misusing public funds during his first two terms as president. He was allowed to run for president once more through the grace of the nation’s top court, the Supreme Federal Tribunal (STF), which in 2021 overturned his conviction on a technicality, not revealing any new exonerating information regarding his case.

Lula’s opponent, Sen. Bolsonaro, is the son of Lula’s 2022 presidential rival, former President Jair Bolsonaro. He announced his intention to run for president in December after the same STF convicted the elder Bolsonaro of “crimes against democracy” for questioning the integrity of the 2022 election and allegedly attempting to poison Lula, allegations Bolsonaro has aggressively denied. The elder Bolsonaro is currently on house arrest, as a result of various health problems, and banned from running for any public office until he is 105 years old.

END THE RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR BY THE HOLIDAYS BY STEVE CORTES [ARTICLE]

As the days grow shorter and temperatures turn chilly, especially in the northern U.S., minds start to turn toward the upcoming holiday season. For too many Americans, though, paying for heat will present a hardship this winter, as heating oil and other fuel prices have soared, in large part because of the ongoing Black Sea war.

While the situation may be frustrating for Americans, it looms as a downright miserable and dangerous one for Ukrainians. Those war-weary citizens face the likely turmoil of consumer product shortages and regular power outages due to ongoing Russian strikes against Ukrainian infrastructure, from warehouses to pipelines. These privations will unfold during the harsh Ukrainian winter, exacerbating the pain.

But instead of pursuing a reasonable peace with intensity and diligence, Volodymyr Zelensky chooses instead to engage in yet another media tour of Western capitals, to be feted by the usual suspects of media mavens, multilateralists, celebrities, and arms-makers.

JORDAN CHURCH ATTACK DEATH TOLL RISES TO 9 AS CHRISTIAN LEADERS CALL FOR UNITY [ARTICLE]

The attack took place during a funeral Friday, and security authorities are continuing their investigation and search for the perpetrators.

The death toll from the armed attack on St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Hamoud, in southern Jordan’s Karak governorate, has risen to nine, with others wounded. The attack took place during a funeral Friday, and security authorities are continuing their investigation and search for the perpetrators.

According to authorities, three gunmen arrived at the church in a blue pickup truck. One wore a mask and carried a Kalashnikov rifle, while the other two had their faces uncovered and carried handguns. The shooting began near the church’s main entrance, where mourners had gathered.

Al Jazeera’s Arabic-language website reported that the attackers carried substantial quantities of ammunition and changed their weapons’ magazines several times during the assault. They also fired again at some people after they had fallen to the ground. According to the same report, all those killed were near the church entrance when the shooting began.

Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya described the assault as a terrorist attack carried out by an extremist group. Public Security Director Maj. Gen. Obeidallah al-Maaytah said authorities were continuing to gather information and investigate to identify the perpetrators, arrest them, and bring them to justice.

Today is the Feast of St. Alfred the Great, King of Wessex

‘For in prosperity a man is often puffed up with pride, whereas tribulations chasten and humble him through suffering and sorrow. In the midst of prosperity the mind is elated, and in prosperity a man forgets himself; in hardship he is forced to reflect on himself, even though he be unwilling. In prosperity a man often destroys the good he has done; amidst difficulties he often repairs what he long since did in the way of wickedness.’ – St. Alfred the Great

ST ALFRED THE GREAT: THE CATHOLIC KING WHO DEFENDED ENGLAND AND ITS FAITH [ARTICLE]

St Alfred the Great (c. 849–899), King of Wessex and later King of the Anglo-Saxons, was one of the most important rulers in early English history. Born in Wantage, Berkshire, he was the youngest son of King Æthelwulf and Osburh. As a child, St Alfred travelled to Rome, where he was received by Pope Leo IV. His upbringing was entirely rooted in the Catholic faith, which remained central to his life and kingship. He became king in 871, following the death of his brother Æthelred, at a time when Viking invasions threatened the survival of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms and their Christian institutions.

St Alfred devoted much of his reign to defending his kingdom against the pagan Viking armies, whose invasions had devastated churches, monasteries and religious communities. After suffering serious defeats, he rallied his forces and won a decisive victory at the Battle of Edington in 878. Rather than simply destroying his enemies, St Alfred sought to bring them into the Christian faith. He required the Viking leader Guthrum to accept baptism, together with 29 of his leading men. St Alfred himself became Guthrum’s godfather, receiving him as his spiritual son. This conversion helped establish peace between the two peoples and contributed to the spread of Christianity among the Vikings settled in England.

St Alfred was also a strong supporter of Christian education and learning. Recognising that Viking invasions had contributed to the decline of religious scholarship, he encouraged the translation of important Latin works into Old English so that more people could understand them. He established a court school where the sons of nobles and commoners could receive an education, including instruction in Latin. He also invited learned churchmen to his court, among them Asser, a Welsh bishop who later wrote his biography. St Alfred believed that wisdom, virtue and Christian teaching were essential to good government and worked to restore the intellectual and spiritual life of his kingdom.
