The culmination of the liturgy is the reception of the Eucharist – the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ – as food by His followers. This most profound and humbling mystery is the greatest connection we can have with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The correct form of reception, of course, is kneeling and on the tongue. But today, Jesus is most often received without the reverence due Him. He is received standing, and in the hands – a practice that is a major factor in the denial of the Real Presence.
