Feds charge Ohio fraudsters with stealing $30M meant for behavioral health program to buy luxury cars

Federal officials busted a gang of Ohio fraudsters for swiping $30 million in taxpayer money meant for kids’ behavioral health services — but was instead spend on luxury cars and other fine items.

At least four suspects — including two state employees — have been hit with 32 counts over the Medicaid fraud, while nearly $470,000 was seized from bank accounts linked to the defendants in addition to the the 14 vehicles bought with their allegedly ill-gotten gains.

The tally included six Mercedes-Benz sedans, a Bentley, a Jaguar, a Maserati, a McLaren, a BMW, a GMC and two Land Rovers, all worth in excess of $800,000.

Two of the defendants ran behavioral health services entities that were supposed to offer psychotherapy and other behavior services to kids or young adults enrolled in recreational programs, church groups or summer camps.

All four conspired “to submit false and fraudulent claims for services that were medically unnecessary and not provided as represented,” according to the Department of Justice.

Bolton’s Guilty Plea Makes Media Attacks On Trump DOJ Look Even More Ridiculous by Brianna Lyman

Bolton’s guilty plea not only undermines Bolton’s own weaponization claims, but also exposes how ridiculous the media’s attacks on Trump have been.

Former National Security Advisor John Bolton has reportedly agreed to enter a plea deal over his alleged mishandling of classified documents just months after he claimed he was the victim of a weaponized Department of Justice.

Bolton is set to plead guilty to a single count of retaining classified information, the Associated Press (AP) reported. Bolton was initially indicted on 18 counts in October related to his alleged leaking of national security secrets while he was writing a memoir. Under the plea deal, Bolton will pay a $2.25 million fine and could possibly help him avoid prison time, according to the AP.

But it’s hard to ignore that the same man who reportedly just agreed to plead guilty — an admission that he committed a crime — is the same man who insisted months ago that he was the victim of political persecution.

“I have become the latest target in weaponizing the Justice Department to charge those he deems to be his enemies with charges that were declined before or distort the facts,” Bolton said following the indictment.

Victor Davis Hanson: Henry Nowak, DEI’s First Victim

The facts are not in dispute. Henry Nowak, a young university student was talking home one night when a 23-year-old Sikh immigrant stabbed him in the chest several times with a “ceremonial blade.” Vickrum Digwa, the killer, told police that Nowak had racially assaulted him. This was a lie. The police handcuffed Nowak, leaving him to bleed out in front of them. ‘Mr. Nowak, unlike George Floyd, was not a career criminal. He was not being handcuffed because he was passing counterfeit currency and high on fentanyl and resisting arrest as Mr. Floyd was. It’s far more egregious for police to handcuff a man bleeding on the ground than to use a standard approved measure to restrain a suspect that was resisting arrest that went south when he stopped breathing. What was the reaction? The United States blew up for four months. What was the reaction in Britain to Mr. Nowak? Silence, argues Victor Davis Hanson on today’s edition of “Victor Davis Hanson: In a Few Words.”

California Wants to Put Pro-Life Woman in Prison for Taking Video at Planned Parenthood

A California pro-life activist is on trial in criminal court for posting a video outside an abortion clinic in December.

Jurors began their third day of deliberations for Anastasia Rogers on Thursday over her December arrest for a 13-second video about how Planned Parenthood staff “unalive” babies, according to news reports and court records.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins is prosecuting Rogers under the state’s Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which criminalizes behavior targeting abortion clinics that is deemed to be intimidation or obstructing entry.

“A jury is currently deciding whether I can go to jail for up to 2 years over a pro-life Instagram reel,” Rogers, an advocate with Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust, said in a Wednesday Instagram video. …

A December video from Survivors of the Abortion Holocaust shows police handcuffing Rogers on a sidewalk before loading her in the back of a cruiser.

“I’ll be okay. Don’t worry about me,” says Rogers from the car’s back seat. “But the babies here will not. The babies at Planned Parenthood are being killed today.”

Illinois Diocese Asks Court to Block Law Requiring It to Hire Nonbelievers

The Diocese of Springfield says the state Human Rights Act violates its religious freedom, including the right to hire workers who agree with its religious mission.

A Catholic diocese and a pregnancy center in Illinois are asking a federal appeals court to strike down a state law that they say would force them to hire workers who disagree with their religious and pro-life missions.

The Diocese of Springfield in March 2025 had filed suit against the state alongside the Pregnancy Care Center of Rockford. Both parties had argued that the Illinois Human Rights Act “dictates how religious employers must speak and act about employees’ voluntary reproductive decisions like abortion, contraception, and sterilization.”

That law “prohibits employers from disciplining or refusing to hire employees” regarding their decisions about abortion and further “requires employers to grant employee accommodations” regarding abortion, the lawsuit said.

A district court dismissed the lawsuit in March of this year, claiming the plaintiffs lacked standing to sue. On June 3 the Alliance Defending Freedom, which is representing both the diocese and the pregnancy center, said it had filed suit in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit over the dispute.

Cardinals to Debate ‘Just War’, Not Liturgy, at Pope Leo XIV’s Next Extraordinary Consistory

A newly disclosed letter to Cardinals from the Dean of the Sacred College outlines the topics for discussion at the June 26–27 meeting.

Pope Leo XIV’s next Extraordinary Consistory will focus not on liturgical questions but on war, peace, and synodality, according to an agenda circulated to the Cardinals ahead of their June 26–27 gathering at the Vatican.

A letter sent on June 3 by the Dean of the College of Cardinals, Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, indicates that discussions will center on the “international situation” in the world and the Church, significant themes of the Pope’s new encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, and the next phase of the Synod on Synodality.

The letter was obtained and published the same day by the Italian blog Messa in Latino, providing the clearest indication yet of the priorities Pope Leo intends to place before the Sacred College.

Although liturgy does not appear among the agenda’s stated topics, it could still surface during the consistory’s opening discussions. The Cardinals will be asked during the first session to consider the “sufferings, tensions, and questions” affecting local Churches and to identify “signs of hope” and opportunities for “reconciliation” to present to the Pope and the Sacred College.

Italian Bishop’s Call to Evangelize Muslims Wins Support From Converts’ Network

The St. Nicholas Tavelic Network backs his emphasis on charity and respect in proclaiming the Gospel to Muslims and the necessity of a visible Christian identity.

A missionary network of converts from Islam to the Catholic Church has warmly welcomed a pastoral letter by Bishop Antonio Suetta of Ventimiglia-San Remo, Italy, calling on his flock to evangelize Muslims.

The St. Nicholas Tavelic Network (TavNet), which provides pastoral care and support often to underground communities of converts, told the Register the bishop’s words had “greatly encouraged us,” adding that they agreed with the bishop that being silent about the faith “is not charity” and that a “clear and visible Christian identity is absolutely necessary to evangelize Muslims.”

Bishop Suetta called for evangelization of Muslims in a May 24 pastoral letter titled “There Is No Greater Love.” He said increasing numbers of Muslim migrants in the region had prompted unavoidable questions to be asked, such as what should be the Christian attitude towards them, and the need to balance respect for their faith with the need to proclaim the Gospel.

“In this way we shall come to know better the faith and culture of Muslims, whom we meet every day,” Bishop Suetta said, adding: “We shall also learn, in a more conscious way, how to exercise our duty as baptized persons, which is a task of love and therefore of proclamation of Him who is the salvation of mankind.”

Pope Leo to inaugurate tallest Catholic Church in the world

Gaudí knew he would never see Sagrada Familia completed. That’s a lesson for our productivity-obsessed world.

This February, the last crane came down from the Sagrada Familia. For more than a century, the scaffolding had been so constant a feature of the Barcelona skyline that locals stopped seeing it as construction and began seeing it as architecture—including what could be called the building’s truest spire, the one that meant the work was not yet finished and therefore not yet finished with us. The cranes are gone now. For the first time in 144 years, the Barcelona skyline is static. The Tower of Jesus Christ stands at 172.5 meters, topping the tallest church in the world, crowned with a cross of steel and glass that catches the Mediterranean light. The basilica is complete.

We should be careful about what we celebrate.

The architect Antoni Gaudí knew he would not live to see the church finished. He was 73 when a tram struck him on the Gran Via in 1926, and he had been working on the Sagrada Família for 43 years by then, long enough to understand that the building was not a project with a completion date but a prayer with a direction. He is reported to have said that his client—God—was not in a hurry. He left his models and drawings deliberately incomplete, not because he ran out of time but because he understood that a building meant to express the living God should remain, itself, alive. It should be unresolved, still becoming, open to the generation that would inherit it.

His models were burned in the Spanish Civil War anyway. The architects who came after him worked from photographs, from fragments of models and from their own best interpretation of what Gaudí intended. The result is visible in the stone. The 19th-century Nativity facade is dark and weathered, handcarved by workers who had never heard of computer-assisted design, its surfaces dense with the particular imperfection of human hands working soft Montjuïc stone over decades. The Glory facade, completed last, is 3D-printed concrete, precise and pale, its geometry exact in a way the earlier work never was and never tried to be. The two faces of the same building are separated by 150 years and the full distance of what technology has done to craft. You can see the seam. You can see where the prayer became a project.

‘Heart Speaks to Heart’: America Consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus [consecration takes place on June 11]

The nationwide consecration of the United States to the Sacred Heart draws on a centuries-old devotion centered on Christ’s love, mercy, and call to conversion.

Cor ad cor loquitur—“Heart speaks to heart.”
—St. John Henry Newman

On June 11, the bishops of the United States, together with Catholics in parishes across the country, will consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The consecration coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

At first glance, the image of the Sacred Heart alongside the celebration of American independence may seem incongruous. Yet this unusual nationwide consecration makes much more sense when one understands the history of devotion to the Sacred Heart and its spread across the United States.

As a child growing up in a Catholic family with an Irish mother, we had two large images of the Sacred Heart in our home. I must admit that I found this all slightly cringe-worthy at the time. One image hung in the hallway that I tried to avoid when possible. Another had a glowing red vigil light beside it that could be seen from outside the house. Not great for a self-conscious young American girl.

Many years later, however, I visited Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre. There, I began to understand the depth behind this devotion. In the 17th century, Christ appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque and revealed His desire for the renewal of France. Jansenism, with its emphasis on original sin, human depravity, and predestination, had infected much of the Church in France, giving it a rigidity and a coldness, anchoring belief in an utter unbiblical and unhealthy fear of God. Against all this, one of the most moving lines from Christ’s revelations to Margaret Mary was essentially this: “If only people knew how much My Heart loves them.”

Sit with that for a moment—“If only people knew how much My Heart loves them.”
