America’s Catholic Bishops Decide to Meddle in U.S. Law Enforcement

… The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), reportedly at the urging of Pope Leo XIV, on Wednesday in Baltimore made a rare and almost unanimous statement in objection to ICE’s enforcement of American immigration law. Again, in the Church, this is unprecedented.

The bishops voted 216-5 to approve what they termed as a “Special Message” on immigration. Out of the five who didn’t vote in support of the message, in typical Catholic clergy fashion, three abstained. This left only two out of 221 Catholic bishops to hang out on a limb and show their support for the current administration’s law enforcement policies.

Reports are that after the vote, the bishops then stood up and applauded themselves.

“We oppose the indiscriminate mass deportation of people. We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed at immigrants or at law enforcement,” the bishops said in their statement. Notice how “law enforcement” was thrown in to provide cover, and as an afterthought. They saved their venom for Trump. …

Trump’s border czar rebukes US bishops over immigration stance

The White House’s so-called border czar has launched a sharp attack on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) after they issued a collective statement raising concerns over the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

Speaking to reporters outside the West Wing of the White House on 14 November, Tom Homan dismissed the bishops’ position outright, saying, “The Catholic Church is wrong,” and insisting that a secure border “saves lives” amid rising deaths linked to human smuggling and fentanyl trafficking.

Homan, a former director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a self-described “lifelong Catholic”, argued that tighter enforcement was a duty of government and that Church leaders misunderstood the realities faced by border agents.

“We’re going to enforce the law and by doing that we save a lot of lives,” he said. “I wish the Catholic Church would understand that.”

Trump administration unleashes illegal immigration crackdown in Charlotte

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Saturday that it has begun immigration enforcement operations in Charlotte, N.C.

“Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens hurting them, their families, or their neighbors,” Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement, The Associated Press reported. “We are surging DHS law enforcement to Charlotte to ensure Americans are safe and public safety threats are removed.”

“We want people in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County to know we stand with all residents who simply want to go about their lives,” the statement said, which was also signed by County Commissioner Mark Jerrell and Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board member Stephanie Sneed.

Local officials, including Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles (D), criticized the federal government’s actions, saying in a joint statement that they “are causing unnecessary fear and uncertainty.”

Trump Admin to Require Millions to Reapply for SNAP Benefits

The Trump administration will require millions of food aid recipients to recertify their information to receive benefits, part of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins’ effort to overhaul the program, she told Newsmax on Thursday.

… Rollins said she plans to “have everyone reapply for their benefits, make sure that everyone that’s taking a taxpayer-funded benefit through … food stamps, that they literally are vulnerable and they can’t survive without it.”

Rollins was discussing fraud in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and said after receiving data on recipients from 29 red states that “186,000 deceased men and women and children in this country are receiving a check.”

With Jocelyn Benson Set To Referee Her Own Race For Governor, Michigan GOP Asks DOJ To Monitor Election

On Thursday 22 GOP members of the Michigan House and Senate sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi requesting that the Department of Justice (DOJ) send election monitors to provide oversight for Michigan’s 2026 primary and general elections.

One of their major causes of concern? Michigan’s secretary of state, Democrat Jocelyn Benson — the state’s chief election official and consistent opponent of election integrity — is running for governor, and in 2026 she will oversee her own election results when she appears on the ballot.

There is recent precedent for the lawmakers’ suggested move, with the DOJ having monitored polling sites in six jurisdictions in California and New Jersey this month for the Nov. 4 election. “Transparency at the polls translates into faith in the electoral process,” Bondi said in a statement announcing the plan. DOJ monitors were in Passaic County, New Jersey, and in California’s Kern, Riverside, Fresno, Orange, and Los Angeles Counties.

Trump Will Take on Blue States Trying to Stop Christians From Adopting

… [Friday] at the White House, the president signed an executive order to increase resources and investment for children in the system and those “aging out.” …

Trumps’ executive order did something else, too. Democrat-controlled states are refusing to allow parents to foster children unless the parents agree to affirm the child’s gender identity, seek hormone treatment and deforming surgeries for the “trans” child, etc. The parents are told they cannot talk to the child about religious views on any of these issues. States like Massachusetts have ruled that Christian parents who wanted to foster are “unfit” unless they agree to the LGBTQ agenda.

President Trump knows this is unacceptable and he is taking action. The executive order directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to work with the Director of the White House Faith Office and the Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs to “take appropriate action” to deal with these policies that prohibit qualified parents and organizations from fostering based on “their sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions” …

Thousands protest crime and corruption in Mexico City, clash with police

In a large protest led by young activists, thousands of people filled the streets of Mexico City on Saturday to demand stronger action against crime, corruption, and impunity.

While the march began peacefully, clashes broke out near the end, leaving at least 120 people wounded and 20 under arrest, according to city officials.

The demonstration, which observers have described as a “Generation Z” movement, drew not only younger participants but also older supporters aligned with opposition parties, according to reports.

As the day unfolded, some demonstrators launched fireworks, threw stones and sticks, and clashed directly with police officers — seizing shields and other equipment, according to authorities.

New Yorkers turning to the church, number of Catholic converts soaring, according to priests

Young people come to New York City to chase careers, materialism and pleasure. The pursuit of faith isn’t exactly on the Big Apple checklist.

However, at a recent, very crowded Sunday night mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Greenwich Village, Father Jonah Teller, OP made a simple announcement indicating that times are changing.

According to Teller, the number enrolled in the parish’s Order of Christian Initiation of Adults — the process in which adults convert to Catholicism — had tripled since last year, with roughly 130 people signing up.

There’s a similar story at St. Vincent Ferrer on the Upper East Side, where their OCIA numbers have doubled since last year, swelling to nearly 90 people. …

In the Diocese of Brooklyn, they’ve also seen a surge. In 2024, they had 538 adults enter the church, nearly twice the amount of 2023. (All priests acknowledge some will drop off before the Easter Vigil, but they still expect numbers to remain high). …
