Israel says resuming Gaza ceasefire after deadly attack on troops led to massive strikes

The IDF announced the resumption of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on Sunday evening after a deadly attack on troops in the southern Gaza Strip in the morning, and a subsequent wave of retaliatory Israeli strikes had threatened to shatter the fragile truce.

Washington was said to have scrambled to intervene to prevent the US-brokered ceasefire from falling apart, just over a week after it came into effect on October 10.

The Modern Democratic Party Is Now Functionally Anti-Israel – commentary

Today’s Morning Jolt concludes by noting that New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani insists he has no opinion about the future of Hamas, but he is adamant that if Bibi Netanyahu ever sets foot in New York City, the NYPD will arrest him on war crimes charges.

Needless to say, there are some gargantuan legal questions about whether the NYPD could arrest a foreign leader who has diplomatic immunity over a charge that the U.S. federal government does not recognize as legitimate; also note that the U.S. government does not recognize the International Criminal Court, which issued the arrest …

‘First to fight’: Marine VP JD Vance marks Corps’ 250th as Hegseth says unity, not ‘diversity,’ is strength

Vice President JD Vance joined Marines and sailors at Camp Pendleton in California on Saturday for the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Marine Corps, telling the crowd that the Corps remains ready to fight and ready to win.

The anniversary event included an amphibious assault demonstration on Red Beach, speeches from military leaders and cabinet officials, and a reminder from Vance that he is the first Marine to serve as vice president.

Helicopters roared overhead, and amphibious vehicles surged through the surf as Marines charged the beach to open the ceremony. Second Lady Usha Vance accompanied her husband to watch the display while families shaded their eyes and Ospreys thundered overhead.

EXCLUSIVE: 51 GOP Senators Urge RFK Jr. to Take Action on Dangerous Abortion Pill

All but two Senate Republicans are urging Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to take strong action against the abortion pill, in light of new reports about its threat to the health of pregnant women.

The Oct. 9 letter obtained by Restoration News, circulated by South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham with signatures from 50 other Republican Senators, asks Sec. Kennedy and FDA Commissioner Marty Makary to tighten oversight of the abortion pill after Joe Biden loosened regulations in 2021.

Only two Republican Senators—Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME)—declined to sign. Collins criticized the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs decision returning abortion laws to the states; Murkowski used the decision to reiterate “her strong support for the codification of abortion rights” under Roe v. Wade.

Missouri governor defends ‘prolife’ stance amid criticism for denying death row inmate

Missouri is moving forward with an execution on Tuesday evening. Lance Shockley is scheduled to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. in Bonne Terre. He’s convicted of murdering Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Carl Dewayne Graham Jr. in 2005.

Shockley’s is the first execution to take place since [Mike] Kehoe took office as governor. Monday morning, Kehoe denied appeals to stop Shockley’s execution. In an interview with Gray Media’s Missouri Capitol Bureau, Kehoe reinforced his stance to be hard on crime.

“Folks in our state need to know that when you take someone’s life, it’s serious, but when you take someone that is a public safety member, a law enforcement officer, we just won’t allow that here in the state of Missouri,” Kehoe said.

[Nigerian] Army’s Peace Meetings End in Slaughter of Christians Near Jos

The Nigerian Army is once again facing accusations of complicity with terrorists following a series of armed attacks coinciding with its peace meetings with local communities. In the last two weeks, at least 25 Christians have been killed in separate attacks by terrorists shouting “Allahu Akbar” according to witnesses in areas south of Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

The attacks were predicted by TruthNigeria in several terror alerts since October 4th often followed shortly after so-called peace initiatives organized by army officials with Christian and Muslim villagers. These are the groups the army classifies as “ethnic militias” clashing over land, a characterization that has been vehemently opposed by Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, a local church leader. In recent times, Rev. Dachomo has buried hundreds of members, including little children killed chiefly in late-night raids.

Two [Spanish] priests threatened with prison for criticizing radical Islam are acquitted

Two priests and a journalist who were tried for criticizing radical Islam have been acquitted by the Provincial Court of Malaga in Spain.

The priests, Custodio Ballester and Jesús Calvo, along with the director of a digital media outlet, Armando Robles, were accused of committing hate crimes on a talk show in 2017.

The public prosecutor’s office had requested a four-year prison sentence for Robles, along with a 10-year ban from teaching and a €3,000 ($3,500) fine. In the case of the priests, the prosecutor sought a three-year sentence.

Bishop Paprocki clarifies ‘seamless garment’ theory by distinguishing intrinsic evils from matters of judgment

Bishop Thomas Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois, recently wrote a column for Respect Life Month offering clarification on the “consistent ethic of life” teaching known as “the seamless garment” in the aftermath of the controversy regarding pro-abortion Sen. Dick Durbin and a decision of the archdiocese of Chicago.

The archdiocese was planning to present Durbin, who is pro-abortion, with a Lifetime Achievement award in November for his support of immigrants. As CatholicVote previously reported, the news of the plan to award Durbin sparked outcry and confusion from Catholics across the U.S., and Durbin ultimately decided to decline the award.

Cardinal Robert Sarah Accuses Europe of Leading the Ideological Persecution of Christianity: “Enshrining Abortion in the Constitution Is a Direct Affront to God and a Betrayal of Our Christian Roots”

Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah issued a stark warning about Europe’s moral and spiritual decline. “Enshrining abortion in the Constitution is a direct affront to God,” he stated, emphasizing that the ideological persecution of faith in the West is now more dangerous than the physical violence endured by Christians in Africa and Asia.

Sarah, prefect emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship, denounced Europe, once the cradle of Christianity, as having become the epicenter of a cultural war against faith and traditional values.

“Ideological persecution in the West is more insidious, more destructive, because it does not kill the body but the soul of nations,” he underscored.

Traditionalists push Pope Leo to resurrect the Latin Mass: The Washington Post

Inside the frescoed nave of a church near the Colosseum, women in black veils and clean-cut young men listened in reverent silence to a largely forbidden rite: a Roman Catholic Mass in Latin. …

If the recent celebration of the Tridentine Latin Mass sounds like a throwback, it is. An ancient rite codified in the 16th century, the Latin Mass was phased out in the 1960s in favor of the modern Catholic Mass said in common vernacular. Nearly a half-century later, Pope Benedict XVI facilitated its revival, giving oxygen to ultraconservatives in the church, only for his successor, Francis, to reimpose strict limits, describing the Latin Mass as a “backward” service for “ideological” Catholics.

Now, the arrival of a new pontiff, Leo XIV, has reinvigorated the campaign to turn the tide again, with influential conservative cardinals and other traditionalists strongly lobbying him to more broadly permit the old rite.
