US, Iranian teams could return to Islamabad for peace talks this week, multiple sources say

Negotiating teams from the U.S. and Iran could return to Pakistan later this week to resume negotiations to end the war in the Gulf, Pakistani and Iranian officials said on Tuesday, days after the first peace talks ended without a breakthrough.

There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials about the plans, which the Iranian and Pakistani officials discussed on condition of anonymity.

A source who has been involved in the talks said a proposal had been sent to Washington and Tehran for the delegations to return to Islamabad to resume discussions. No date had yet been decided but both countries could return as early as the end of this week.

What to know about Eric Swalwell’s exit from Congress and the California governor’s race

Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell announced this week that he’s leaving Congress and the crowded contest for California governor following sexual assault allegations, which he denies, and a swift exodus of his supporters.

Days ago, the 45-year-old congressman was among a group of leading Democrats in the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom, who cannot seek a third term at the helm of the nation’s most populous state.

Swalwell’s campaign unraveled within about 48 hours after the San Francisco Chronicle reported allegations that he had sexually assaulted a woman twice, including when she worked for him. Later Friday, CNN reported that other women accused him of various forms of sexual misconduct.

Trump Claims Viral Healing Post Was Him Playing Doctor, Not God

President Donald Trump claimed Monday that a religion-themed image he posted and later deleted from social media that showed him healing the sick was actually just a representation of him as “a doctor” and not intended to portray him as Jesus Christ.

Trump posted the now-deleted image on Truth Social early Monday morning after he tore into Pope Leo XIV over the pontiff’s criticism of Operation Epic Fury, drawing fire online and on air for the depiction. At an unscheduled Oval Office presser that began with a DoorDash delivery of McDonald’s, Trump was asked about the image and whether it he posted it himself.

Trump Admin Fires Prosecutors Who Put Pro-Life Americans in Prison

The Justice Department has fired at least four prosecutors involved in cases under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act during the Biden administration responsible for putting pro-life Americans in prison.

This is a step the Trump administration described as ending the weaponization of federal law against peaceful pro-life advocates.

The terminations occurred Monday, including longtime federal prosecutor Sanjay Patel of the Civil Rights Division’s criminal section, who had been placed on administrative leave last month. A government official familiar with the firings confirmed the action.
