Minnesota and Illinois sue Trump administration over ‘federal invasion’ of immigration officers
Two Democratic attorneys general filed a lawsuit on Monday seeking to restrict Immigration and Customs Enforcement from operating in their states.
Minnesota’s and Illinois’s move to sue the Trump administration marks the latest reaction to a controversial shooting that occurred last week, in which an ICE agent killed a Minneapolis woman accused of trying to ram him over with her vehicle.
Illinois’s lawsuit, joined by Chicago, questioned ICE’s tactics, particularly throughout the immigration enforcement effort “Operation Midway Blitz.” Officers utilized violent and unlawful tactics in violation of the 10th Amendment and federal statutes, alleged the lawsuit, which was filed by Attorney General Kwame Raoul.
“Though Defendants describe this assault as ‘immigration enforcement,’ the reality is that uniformed, military-trained personnel, carrying semi-automatic firearms and military-grade weaponry, have rampaged for months through Chicago and surrounding areas, lawlessly stopping, interrogating, and arresting residents, and attacking them with chemical weapons,” court filings read.

If you’ve only paid attention to the legacy media over the past few days, you probably know more about Renee Good’s poetry than you do about the actions that led to her tragic death last Wednesday. After refusing federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers’ commands to get out of her car, which she had used to impede agents’ access to a neighborhood road, Good was caught on video accelerating her SUV toward one agent with another hanging on her door. The agent in front of her vehicle fatally shot her as the car appeared to hit him.
The corporate press, with help from the Democrats to whom they run for comment, portrayed Good as a victim of spontaneous violence, a “woman [who] drops her kid off at school, not involved in protest activity or anything, [but] seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.” The more details emerged, the fewer of those claims turned out to be true.

Trump says Iran wants to negotiate as the death toll in protests rises to at least 572
U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran wants to negotiate with Washington after his threat to strike the Islamic Republic over its crackdown on protesters, a move coming as activists said Monday that the death toll in nationwide demonstrations rose to at least 572.
Iran had no direct reaction to Trump’s comments, which came after the foreign minister of Oman — long an interlocutor between Washington and Tehran — traveled to Iran this weekend. It also remains unclear just what Iran could promise, particularly as Trump has set strict demands over its nuclear program and its ballistic missile arsenal, which Tehran insists is crucial for its national defense.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking to foreign diplomats in Tehran, insisted “the situation has come under total control” in remarks that blamed Israel and the U.S. for the violence, without offering evidence.
“That’s why the demonstrations turned violent and bloody to give an excuse to the American president to intervene,” Araghchi said, in comments carried by Al Jazeera. The Qatar-funded network has been allowed to report live from inside Iran, despite the internet being shut off.
However, Araghchi said Iran was “open to diplomacy.” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said that a channel to the U.S. remained open, but talks needed to be “based on the acceptance of mutual interests and concerns, not a negotiation that is one-sided, unilateral and based on dictation.”

Dictatorship in Nicaragua releases dozens of political prisoners after U.S. pressure
The Nicaraguan dictatorship announced on Jan. 10 the release of “dozens of people” who were imprisoned following pressure from the United States and coinciding with the 19th anniversary of the regime of President Daniel Ortega and his wife and “co-president,” Rosario Murillo.
In a brief statement on X, the Nicaraguan Interior Ministry said that on Saturday, Jan. 10, “dozens of people who were in the National Penitentiary System are returning to their homes and families.”
The dictatorship did not provide details about the released prisoners, but the Spanish EFE news agency was able to confirm with their families the release of seven opposition figures: Jessica Palacios, Mauricio Alonso, Mario Rodríguez Serrano, Pedro López, María José Rojas, Óscar Velásquez, and evangelical pastor Rudy Palacios.

Congress to send delegation to Denmark this week as Danish, Greenland envoys come to US
A team of Democratic and Republican lawmakers are expected to visit Denmark this week to discuss Greenland as Danish and Greenland envoys are slated to come to Washington, D.C. for talks.
The congressional delegation is expected to be led by Delaware Democratic Sen. Chris Coons and will also feature Democratic Sens. Dick Durbin of Illinois, and Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire. Republican Sens. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, both of whom are frequently at odds with President Donald Trump, are also expected to be on the trip, according to The Hill.
Three Democratic lawmakers are also expected to visit Copenhagen on Friday and Saturday, including Gregory Meeks of New York, and Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania, where the delegation will meet with high-level Danish and Greenlandic government officials and business leaders, the Associated Press reported.

At a meeting of Catholic lawyers, businessmen, and CEOs, conservative-leaning Archbishop Paul Coakley warned against the “plague of relativism” and the “eclipse of truth” sweeping every aspect of American life and denounced the transgender movement as “well-intentioned madness.”
The Oklahoma City archbishop, who was elected secretary of the U.S. Bishops’ Conference last month, delivered his comments at the November 30 meeting – the Monsignor Herron Dinner – of the California-based Napa Institute, a group of Catholic businessmen founded “to serve as a leaven in educating, forming and networking Catholics” in response to the growing secularization of American culture and the increased rejection of the Christian roots of the nation. The archbishop’s address was titled “Transgenderism and the eclipse of truth.”
“We see the plague of relativism in nearly every aspect of life,” Archbishop Coakley said. “In politics, we speak of alternative facts, in education this emphasis on equally valid perspectives, and sadly sometimes even in the church with its push to change her moral teaching, especially her sexual ethic. There is no starker proof that we live in a culture where experience and a desire eclipse the truth than the transgender movement.”

On December 30, 2025, less than ten weeks after a father had filed suit in Alan L. v. Lexington Public Schools, a federal trial court judge in Massachusetts granted the father’s request for a preliminary injunction.

Senate GOP Prepares To Hold The Line On Hyde As White House Walks Back Trump’s ‘Be Flexible’ Remark
Less than one week after President Donald Trump appeared to encourage congressional Republicans to put the annually passed congressional restriction on taxpayer-funded abortion on the chopping block, the White House is walking back his comments and members of the Senate GOP who looked like they might cave with Trump are committing to holding the line on the Hyde Amendment.
