SC governor appoints Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sister to fulfill his term
Darline Graham Nordone will finish out the term of her older brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who adopted and raised her following their parents’ deaths.
Gov. Henry McMaster’s appointment Monday comes a day after word of Graham’s sudden death, at the age of 71, stunned not only South Carolinians but people around the globe.
“It’s my honor to ask his little sister to finish his work,” the governor said in making his announcement at the Statehouse. He took no questions from reporters.
Graham Nordone, who heads the state Commission for the Blind and has spent her career helping people with disabilities find jobs, will fulfill the term that expires in January. Voters will decide through a special GOP primary next month who will be on the November ballot for the next six-year term.
“Lindsey has always been there for me, and now, I’ll be there for him,” she said.
The brief news conference ended with her speaking to her brother: “I miss you more than I can even put into words. But I’m going to do this. I got it.”

Trump birthright citizenship fight comes roaring back with ‘invaders’ play after Kavanaugh roadmap
Banks uses Wong Kim Ark exceptions to deny birthright citizenship to birth tourists and children of illegal immigrants
Sen. Jim Banks will introduce legislation Monday aimed at ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants and birth tourists by defining them as children of “invaders” under federal law after a Supreme Court ruling last month dealt a setback to President Donald Trump’s executive order on the issue.
Trump recently urged Senate Republicans to move faster on his legislative agenda, including ending birthright citizenship, telling them they were “not fighting hard enough,” Banks, R-Ind., recalled in a June 30 interview with Human Events.
Banks told Fox News Digital he plans to introduce the Citizenship Act as soon as the Senate opens for business Monday afternoon – crafting it with a nod to Trump-appointed Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s concurrence in last month’s Trump v. Barbara case.
Kavanaugh, concurring in the judgment and dissenting in part, said Trump’s order conflicted with federal birthright citizenship law but suggested Congress could amend that statute to create new exceptions.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Calls on House Speaker to Attach SAVE America Act to All Appropriation Bills – Dares John Thune to Strip It Out and Face the Consequences
Stellar Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) on Monday called on Speaker Mike Johnson to attach the SAVE America to all of the appropriation bills and all must-pass bills in the House of Representatives.
Rep. Luna called on Johnson to use the MIRV process, a military acronym for “Multiple-Impact Reentry Vehicles,” to pass the SAVE act and send it to the Senate.
Under a MIRV, legislation is passed individually before being combined into one legislative vehicle (without a vote on the final package) before being sent to the Senate.
The Conservative Partnership Institute explained how this works – “Once the rule passes to structure this process, each provision is then voted on individually, passing with different coalitions of votes, and all members understand that the bills will be combined without a vote at the end. The vote on “final passage” to the extent that it exists, is a vote for or against the rule.” …
If Thune removes the SAVE Act from legislation that already passed through the US House of Representatives it will prove that he is against Voter ID and election integrity.

COUNTER TERRORISM POLICE TAKE OVER INVESTIGATION OF BRITISH PRO-LIFE POLITICIAN’S MURDER
The murder of a famous Catholic politician who was bludgeoned to death in the kitchen of her home is now being investigated by Counter Terrorism Police in what looks like a shift from previous cautious statements of investigators.
The body of Ann Widdecombe, a former Conservative Party government minister, was discovered in her secluded country house in Haytor, in southwestern England’s Devon region, on the afternoon of July 9, some 24 hours after she was attacked.
The murder of the 78-year-old politician, author and celebrity comes nearly five years after her close friend David Amess, a Conservative Member of Parliament, was stabbed to death by Ali Harbi Ali because of his support for air strikes against Islamic terrorists in Syria.
Police believe Widdecombe was murdered at about 12.30 p.m. on July 8. Her body was discovered after she failed to appear on a Channel 5 television program via Zoom and her agent was alerted by producers.

Pope Leo XIV personally lobbied Macron over French euthanasia bill, sources say
Exclusive: Sources tell AdVaticanum that Pope Leo XIV held regular direct calls with President Emmanuel Macron in an effort to slow France’s euthanasia bill ahead of his forthcoming visit to the country
A notable feature of the June Consistory was Pope Leo XIV’s call for frankness in addressing the pressing issues facing the Church. According to sources close to AdVaticanum, this approach has recently been put into practice through the Pope’s personal engagement with the highest levels of the French government on the question of euthanasia.
The intervention has taken place through quiet but consistent channels. While sources could not confirm exactly when it began, Pope Leo XIV is said to have initiated a series of direct communications with Emmanuel Macron. According to sources within both the diplomatic sphere and the Vatican, His Holiness has been making regular 15-minute phone calls to the French President focused solely on the euthanasia and assisted suicide bill.
These conversations have centred on ways to slow the bill’s progress and prevent France from following paths seen in other nations, such as Canada, where the law is now responsible for more than 5 per cent of deaths. It is understood that His Holiness has been focusing particularly on euthanasia because several European countries, including the United Kingdom, are pursuing similar legislation, and a liberalisation in France may encourage others to follow.

Lawmakers who vote in favor of euthanasia ‘will no longer be able to receive Communion,’ French bishop says
Editor’s Note: The bishop of Bayonne, France, said in an interview that lawmakers who vote in favor of euthanasia “will no longer be able to receive Communion.”
Bishop Aillet said: The Catholic parliamentarians who voted for this bill must weigh the consequences. If they are aware of this inconsistency, they will no longer be able to receive Communion. The Church is justified in reminding them of this, as some bishops have done in the United States. I would like to invite them to a sincere examination of conscience. Do we have the right to make the voluntary suppression of a human life a response to suffering?
The prelate also decried the trampling of conscience rights of health care workers who would be compelled to participate in euthanasia if the practice is legalized.
