Vance hits back at Obama’s criticism of Trump-Iran deal: ‘They hate the Obama deal’
Vice President JD Vance shot back at former President Barack Obama‘s criticism of the deal to end the U.S. war with Iran, arguing that a major indicator of the difference is the Gulf Arabs’ love of the deal.
Obama voiced criticism of President Donald Trump’s war with Iran, saying in an interview this week that the deal seemed to be the same as the one he obtained without armed conflict. Vance voiced his disagreement on Monday.
Addressing Obama, Vance asked, “If it’s the same thing, why is it that the Gulf Arabs hated your deal, and they love our deal?”
“They are the ones who are in the region. They know what it means to enrich the worst terrorist regime in the world, and they also know what it means to turn over a new leaf and to go to a different future,” he continued. “So … he should acknowledge that the people who are closest to this, they love the Trump deal, they hate the Obama deal, and that’s maybe the biggest endorsement of this plan.”
Obama made his criticism in an interview with ABC News, saying, “It is doubtful that any agreement that arises is going to be significantly different or a significant improvement from the deal that we had in the first place and had worked for for a long stretch of time before we, the United States, pulled out of it.”

Interim US-Iran Peace Deal Sparks Anger among Israelis, Who Lash out at Netanyahu
Israelis from across the political spectrum reacted angrily Monday to the news of an interim deal between the U.S. and Iran, calling it a disaster for Israel and directing their fury at one man: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As of early Monday evening, Netanyahu had yet to release a statement. But other government officials, rivals, politicians and commentators were quick to criticize the deal, marking a sort of informal referendum on the premier’s tenure ahead of elections this fall.
They have also underscored Netanyahu’s deepening isolation — at home, in the region and, increasingly, from the United States.
Critics say the prime minister led President Donald Trump into the war with Iran while overpromising what it could achieve, and Trump is now dragging Israel out of the conflict before it feels ready. They say Netanyahu misjudged Trump’s appetite for a protracted conflict, was outflanked by Iran in negotiations and grew increasingly sidelined by the region’s other major players.
“Israel is paying the price of Netanyahu’s hubris and blindness, and the price of the manipulations that he tried to pull on Trump,” former Prime Minister and Netanyahu rival Ehud Barak said in an interview with Israel’s public broadcaster Monday. “Iran emerged stronger; Israel emerged weaker. That is Netanyahu’s strategic responsibility. He failed.”

UK bans under-16s from using social media apps including TikTok and YouTube
Britain will ban children aged under 16 from using a range of social media apps, including Snapchat, TikTok and YouTube, to protect them from harmful content and excessive screen time, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Monday.
The ban, which is expected to take effect early next year, makes the U.K. part of a growing global movement to tighten online safety for children. Australia, Canada, Brazil and Indonesia have introduced legislation or announced age-based restrictions or requirements for children’s access to social media. France, Spain, Denmark, Thailand and South Korea are among others studying or developing similar approaches.
“Every parent can see it with their own eyes. Social media is making children unhappy,” said Starmer, who has two teenage children. “I’ve heard first hand from families crying out for change and we will do right by them.”

Pope Leo Says Migrants Should Integrate And Obey The Law by Casey Chalk
Letting everyone into your country, regardless of their culture or willingness to assimilate, is not Christian charity. It’s chaos and civilizational collapse.
When Pope Leo XIV last week completed his seven-day trip to Spain by visiting the Canary Islands, where thousands of migrants have died attempting to reach Europe, one would expect the usual boilerplate language typical of the Catholic hierarchy of late. This would include that Western nations need to treat immigrants with respect and dignity (hint: unreservedly welcoming them in and putting them on the fast track to citizenship) and that immigrants have the right to leave their nations of origin. There was certainly some of that, similar to his predecessor, Francis.
But what was surprisingly welcome was that the pope tempered that language with exhortations and warnings to those same migrants, a message that has been often frustratingly absent from the Catholic Church’s public commentary regarding one of the greatest crises facing the West. It’s language that many of the Catholic faithful — and the broader world that, to various degrees, still looks to the papacy as a moral compass — desperately yearned to hear, especially given that Catholic teaching is actually quite nuanced and moderate on the topic of immigration and borders. One hopes the rest of the Catholic hierarchy were paying attention.

‘We should not be here today,’ nuncio preaches at funeral of murdered Mozambique bishop
The apostolic nuncio to Mozambique celebrated the funeral Mass of Bishop Osório Cîtora Afonso, I.M.C., on June 12, six days after he was murdered.
“We should not be here today; we should not be celebrating this funeral,” Archbishop Luís Miguel Muñoz Cárdaba preached. “What happened should never have happened. Never before in the history of Mozambique has a bishop been murdered.”
Archbishop Muñoz expressed his hope that “all the reasons for this violent death will certainly come to light. However painful they may be, we must not fear the truth. Freedom sets us free.”
Addressing the murdered bishop and his grieving mother, the nuncio added:
Today you leave your mother Amélia for the Church, and we welcome her with love and gratitude. Thank you, mother Amélia, for giving your son to God and his people. Osório now belongs not only to his family but also to the Church, which he faithfully served until the very end.
Today you return to the Father’s house, but you leave in the heart of this Church the witness of a faithful pastor, a devoted missionary, and a man who lived for God and his brothers and sisters. Rest in peace, brother. …
Police have arrested three people, including a priest, in the bishop’s murder, with local Catholics expressing skepticism at the suspects’ involvement in the murder.
