Senate passes bill to end government shutdown, heads to House for final passage
The longest government shutdown in U.S. history is one step closer to coming to an end after the Senate passed short-term funding on Monday, the 41st day of the shutdown.
The measure, which passed 60-40 with bipartisan support, required a simple majority and now heads to the House for final passage, where it is expected to be approved as early as Wednesday.
“This has been a very long road, quite literally the longest shutdown in history,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) said. “I am very, very happy to be able to say that we are coming to the end.”
The legislation would fund the government through January 2026 and is the product of a bipartisan deal with eight senators in the Democratic Caucus, an agreement that fueled further divisions within the party over healthcare demands to extend expiring Obamacare subsidies.

The nation’s largest health insurance companies have seen good business since Obamacare was first passed in 2010 and fully implemented in 2014. President Donald Trump is recommending air traffic controllers who remained at their posts during the Democrat government shutdown be rewarded.
The president made the announcement in a post on his Truth Social Monday, writing, “All Air Traffic Controllers must get back to work, NOW!!! Anyone who doesn’t will be substantially ‘docked.’”
“For those Air Traffic Controllers who were GREAT PATRIOTS, and didn’t take ANY TIME OFF for the ‘Democrat Shutdown Hoax,’ I will be recommending a BONUS of $10,000 per person for distinguished service to our Country.” …

Trump Administration Ends 20 Years of ‘Misinformation’ — HHS Lifts Misleading Black Box Warnings on Hormone Replacement Therapy to Help Women Through Menopause
The Trump Administration has officially moved to end two decades of fear-driven misinformation about hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that the FDA will remove misleading “black box” warnings placed on HRT medications in 2003, warnings that discouraged millions of women from receiving life-improving treatment during menopause.
Flanked by FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary, Second Lady Usha Vance, and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Kennedy said the administration’s decision “restores integrity to medicine and faith in public health.”
For years, women were warned—based on a flawed and fear-mongering 2002 study—that HRT could increase the risk of breast cancer and heart disease. Yet the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) data, now reanalyzed, showed those risks were statistically insignificant and misapplied to women far older than the typical menopause patient.

Supreme Court rejects petition to overturn ruling on same-sex marriage
The Supreme Court on Nov. 10 decided not to revisit Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.
The justices, without comment, turned away a petition from Kim Davis, the former Kentucky county clerk who in 2015 refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. As CatholicVote reported, Davis argued that doing so would violate her deeply held Christian beliefs.
In the writ of certiorari filed Oct. 22, Davis had asked the court to revisit the Obergefell ruling and reverse a lower court’s order that she had to pay $100,000 in emotional damages and $260,000 in legal fees to two men — David Ermold and David Moore — who sued after she denied them a marriage license. She later spent six days in jail for contempt of court.
After losing an appeal in March at the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Davis turned to the Supreme Court, insisting that the First Amendment protects her right to refuse participation in recognizing marriages that violate her religious convictions.
“The Court can and should fix this mistake,” her attorneys wrote in the petition to the high court.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will select its president and vice president Nov. 11 during the Fall Plenary Assembly in Baltimore.
Bishops will choose both positions from a slate of 10 candidates nominated by their fellow bishops. The incumbent president and vice president — Archbishop Timothy Broglio and Archbishop William Lori — will step down from their roles as their three-year terms expire.
To be elected, the bishop must receive a majority of the voting bishops. After the president is selected from the 10-person slate, the vice president will be chosen from the nine remaining candidates. …

Pope Leo XIV met on Saturday with 15 survivors of clergy sexual abuse in a meeting marked by dialogue, listening and prayer, according to the Holy See Press Office.
The encounter, described as one of “closeness with the victims, of deep and painful listening and dialogue,” lasted nearly three hours. The meeting concluded with “an intense moment of prayer” shared between the Pope and the survivors.
