Kash Patel sues The Atlantic over report alleging excessive drinking and absences
The FBI director is seeking $250 million from the magazine after it published a report about his alleged behavior and leadership at the bureau.
FBI Director Kash Patel filed a lawsuit Monday against The Atlantic over a story it published Friday that alleged he drinks to excess and has had unexplained absences at the bureau.
His attorneys allege in the lawsuit that the story is a “sweeping, malicious, and defamatory hit piece,” and Patel is seeking $250 million from the magazine.
The report’s opening anecdote said that Patel was locked out of an internal computer system at the FBI on April 10, which convinced the FBI director that he had been fired by the White House and prompted him to call aides and allies, the magazine reported, citing nine people familiar with his outreach.

DOJ alleges SPLC used shell accounts and prepaid cards to funnel funds to extremist-linked individuals
FBI Director Kash Patel and Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced on Tuesday a sweeping indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), accusing the far-left nonprofit of fraudulently paying members of extremist groups.
A grand jury in the Middle District of Alabama returned an 11-count indictment charging the SPLC with six counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, according to Blanche.
The SPLC is a nonprofit that claims to fight white supremacy and racial hatred by reporting on extremist groups, and conducting research to inform law enforcement groups with the goal of dismantling the groups.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sues Democratic donor platform ActBlue
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit Monday against ActBlue, a political donations platform that is primarily used by Democratic candidates.
The state court lawsuit is the latest in a string of investigations and legal actions Paxton and Congress have undertaken against the platform over the last few years. Paxton is asking a Tarrant County judge to stop the company from accepting donations via gift cards and prepaid debit cards, and fine them $10,000 per violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act.
Paxton claims that ActBlue allows improper donations from people outside the United States and those who have already hit the mandated donor limits. He opened an investigation into ActBlue in December 2023, and the next year, sent a letter to the Federal Elections Commission,

ActBlue employees took the Fifth in House depositions 146 times in probe on alleged donor fraud
ActBlue employees invoked their Fifth Amendment right at least 146 times in depositions with congressional committees investigating alleged donor fraud on the fundraising platform, according to an explosive report released Monday.
Two ActBlue officials, one of whom formerly served as VP of customer service, and three of its former lawyers “declined to answer a single one of the Committees’ substantive questions,” stated the interim staff report from the House Administration, Oversight and Judiciary Committees.
“Their unwillingness to testify only amplifies the Committees’ concerns,” the report added of the depositions between July and December 2025, also citing ActBlue CEO Regina Wallace-Wells’ seemingly “false statements to Congress” and withholding of documents pursuant to a subpoena for records.

Nearly 70% support SAVE America Act to require voter ID: Poll
When pressed on the likelihood of the SAVE America Act actually making it more difficult to vote, 56% said critics were “blowing the issue out of proportion” while 44% said it might make it more difficult to vote.
A clear majority of voters support the SAVE America Act to require voter ID and proof of citizenship to register to vote, a recent survey has revealed.
Senate leaders have faced considerable pressure to pass the bill, including by using the “talking filibuster” or eliminating the filibuster entirely. Thus far, however, the Senate has not advanced the legislation.
Overall, 68% of registered voters supported the bill, while 32% opposed it in the latest Harvard CAPS/Harris poll. Support was split by party, with 90% of Republicans backing the measure while 55% of Democrats opposed it. A further 66% of independents supported the plan.
