SCOTUS Appears Poised To Recognize That Presidents Run The Executive Branch
The U.S. Supreme Court signaled on Monday that it’s prepared to recognize what the Constitution has unequivocally held for centuries — that the president controls the executive branch of government.
During oral arguments for Trump v. Slaughter, a majority of justices appeared favorable to the Trump administration’s arguments regarding President Trump’s firing of Rebecca Slaughter, a Democrat member of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). As The Federalist previously reported, the case deals with presidents’ ability to remove members of so-called “independent agencies” and could result in the court overturning Humphrey’s Executor v. U.S. (1935), which upheld statutory limitations on presidents’ removal powers.

Trump’s remarks, delivered in a ballroom at a casino in Mount Pocono, came as he and GOP candidates are seeking to head off rising affordability concerns among voters. The matter consistently ranked No. 1 in voters’ minds, both ahead of and after, major Democratic wins in the November elections, and Trump has been scrambling over the past month to put forward new initiatives aimed at lowering prices while still backing his existing policies.

There are scandals that explode with theatrical outrage, and there are scandals that settle over a nation like a quiet, damning verdict. Minnesota’s autism-therapy fraud belongs firmly in the latter category. On November 22, 2025, The Washington Post noted — with the weary delicacy that now accompanies every public-sector failure — that welfare fraud in Minnesota had become “far too common,” highlighting federal charges against eight men, six of them Somali, accused of exploiting the state’s Housing Stabilization Services program under Medicaid and helping force the program’s shutdown.
But the autism-therapy empire was something darker, and far more revealing. According to federal filings and local reporting, dozens of clinics — many Somali-owned — are under scrutiny for allegedly mass-producing autism diagnoses and billing Medicaid for therapy that never occurred. In one charging document, prosecutors describe a $14 million scheme centered on falsified treatment notes and kickbacks to parents, tied to defendant Asha Farhan Hassan, who is also charged in the Feeding Our Future food-aid fraud.

Court Overrules Leftist Judge, Allows Planned Parenthood Defunding to Continue
The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday overruled a preliminary injunction from liberal U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, allowing a federal provision to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business through Medicaid to take effect and continue during ongoing litigation.
The decision, which lifts a temporary block on the funding ban, marks a significant victory for pro-life advocates who have long pushed to redirect taxpayer dollars away from the abortion company.
The American Center for Law and Justice, which filed amicus briefs supporting the government’s position, hailed the ruling as a “crucial” step in “defending the sanctity of life and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are not used to fund organizations that perform abortions.”

Makary Responds to Report Saying He Slow-Walked Abortion Pill Safety Review
Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary responded to a report saying he is putting off the review of the abortion drug mifepristone.
“We do an ongoing review, but we’re also engaging in a robust study that can serve to validate or not validate other numbers that have been put out there in the literature,” he told The Daily Signal in an exclusive interview.
Makary and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have pledged to do a review of the safety of abortion drugs following a study from the Ethics and Public Policy Center, which showed 11% of women experience adverse effects after taking the pill regimen. Bloomberg reported that Makary is slow-walking the review, prompting calls from leading pro-life groups for him to be removed from his post.

I was led to the Catholic Church during my undergraduate years, when I was a student in the famed Integrated Humanities Program at the University of Kansas (KU). The program was a four-semester “Great Books” program for freshmen and sophomores and flourished during the 1970s and 1980s.
It was somewhat modeled after the “Great Books” programs at St. John’s University in Annapolis, Maryland, and the University of Chicago in the 1950s and 1960s. But it was different in that it was an “integrated” program where the students not only read the classics of Western civilization, from Homer’s Odyssey to Francis Parkman’s The Oregon Trail, but also memorized poetry, wrote calligraphy, went stargazing and learned to waltz.
It was an attempt to get the students to “look up” and gaze at the world with fresh eyes; to try and see truth, goodness and beauty in all things.
