Blackburn challenges Jackson to define ‘woman’ in Supreme Court transgender sports cases
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) renewed her criticism of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson on Tuesday as the Supreme Court heard arguments over whether states can enforce sex-based rules in school sports.
In a radio interview, Blackburn referenced Jackson’s past refusal to define the word “woman” during her 2022 confirmation hearings, suggesting the issue remains relevant as the court considers cases involving transgender athletes.
“I think it’ll be interesting to see if today she says she has no opinion because she’s not a biologist,” Blackburn said in the radio interview.
The Supreme Court is reviewing laws from Idaho and West Virginia that prohibit transgender athletes who identify as girls from competing on girls’ and women’s sports teams. The cases center on whether those policies violate Title IX and the Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.
Blackburn said she supports the court’s decision to hear the cases and believes the justices should uphold sex-based distinctions in athletics.
“We are pleased that the court is taking up these cases.

Female Athletes, Republican AGs Rally To Defend Women’s Sports At SCOTUS
A coalition of female athletes and Republican attorneys general rallied to defend the sanctity of women’s sports in Washington, D.C., on Monday ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court’s consideration of the issue this week.
“While, of course, I’m excited for the opportunity for the case[s] that will be heard tomorrow, truthfully, I’m pissed off … that we’ve reached a point where we seemingly have an entire political party who has diminished and erased our rights as women. That’s exactly what this is. Don’t let them frame it any other way,” said former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines during a press conference hosted by the Republican Attorneys General Association.
The moment came ahead of the Supreme Court’s Tuesday oral arguments in Little v. Hecox and West Virginia v. B.P.J., which center around laws passed by Idaho and West Virginia that prohibit trans-identifying men from competing in women’s sports. The high court will address the question of whether these statutes violate the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause, or, in West Virginia’s case, Title IX.

Trump Cancels Talks with Iran and Offers to Support Iranian Protestors
As tensions escalate between the United States and Iran, President Donald Trump canceled talks with officials from Tehran, amid a protest crackdown, telling Iranian citizens “help is on its way.”
But things seemed to have changed Tuesday, according to Newsmax.
The Trump administration did not share any details on what the President meant with “help is on its way.” Still, it comes after he said earlier this week that Iran wants to strike a deal with Washington after he threatened to strike the country that has killed more than 2,000, according to human rights monitors.
“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!!” Trump wrote in a morning post on Truth Social. “Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price. I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY.”

Report: Witkoff Met With Exiled Iranian Crown Prince
White House special envoy Steve Witkoff met privately over the weekend with Reza Pahlavi, the exiled crown prince of Iran, to discuss the ongoing nationwide protests and the deepening crisis in the Islamic Republic, U.S. officials told Axios.
Reza Pahlavi, 65, is the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, the last monarch of Iran, who was overthrown and forced into exile during the 1979 Iranian Revolution.
Following his father’s departure and the abolition of the monarchy, theocratic rule under Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was established, and the younger Pahlavi has lived abroad ever since, advocating for regime change and democratic reforms in Iran.
The meeting, the first reported high-level engagement between the U.S. administration and a leading figure of the Iranian opposition since protests escalated, comes amid the largest and most sustained unrest in Iran in decades.
