Trump administration rejects UN migration declaration, says ‘mass migration was never safe’
The U.S. State Department announced on Monday that it refused to back an International Migration Review Forum “progress” declaration, accusing the U.N. of efforts to “advocate and facilitate replacement immigration in the United States and across the broader West.”
The U.S. did not participate in the second International Migration Review Forum, held May 5–8 at U.N. Headquarters in New York, and will not support the declaration, the department said in a statement on Monday.
The forum is the U.N.’s main global platform for member states to review implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, according to the U.N. Network on Migration. The 2026 forum was scheduled to produce an intergovernmentally agreed “Progress Declaration.”

DHS identifies 10,000+ foreign students working for ‘highly suspect’ employers
Vice President JD Vance celebrated the announcement, calling it “[a]nother great win for our fraud task force.”
The Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday announced its identification of more than 10,000 foreign students who allegedly work for dubious employers as part of its crackdown on visa work programs.
“This is only the tip of the iceberg. Over the past year, we’ve dramatically expanded our oversight of OPT,” a DHS spokesman said. “Many of these employers include NGOS engaged in suspicious activities. We’ve discovered empty buildings and locked doors at addresses where hundreds of foreign students are allegedly employed.”
The Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, is a work authorization for students on visas. The program, along with the H-1B visa, has drawn intense scrutiny from immigration hawks, who have long contended that it is ridden with fraud.

Cardinal Sarah says liturgy has been reduced to ‘mere entertainment’
Cardinal Robert Sarah has called for “clarifications” to parts of the interpretation of Vatican II in order to prevent readings that represent “a break with the faith”. The former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments also warned against liturgy becoming “mere entertainment” and said the Church must resist pressure to conform to the modern world
Cardinal Robert Sarah has said that parts of the interpretation of the Second Vatican Council require “clarifications” in order to prevent readings that represent “a break with the faith”.
In a lengthy interview published by the French Catholic magazine La Nef on May 4, the former prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments said certain conciliar texts had produced “divergent, even opposing, interpretations”, particularly concerning religious freedom, ecumenism, collegiality and the relationship between the Church and the modern world.
“A council must be read within the continuity of the faith as it has always been,” Cardinal Sarah said. “Where certain texts have given rise to divergent, even opposing, interpretations, it is legitimate to call for a deeper examination in order to avoid readings that represent a break with the faith.” His Eminence added: “The Church has nothing to fear from clarity.”

Blessed Mother’s First Appearance – May 13, 1917
‘Between May 13 and October 13, 1917, three Portuguese children–Francisco and Jacinta Marto and their cousin Lucia dos Santos–received apparitions of Our Lady at Cova da Iria near Fatima, a city 110 miles north of Lisbon. Mary asked the children to pray the rosary for world peace, for the end of World War I, for sinners, and for the conversion of Russia.’

The Saint and the Lady Who Saved Him: John Paul II and Fatima
Fatima became very close to him on May 13, 1981, when he realized the significance of these apparitions, which he then started to link to the attempt on his life, when he realized that it took place on the anniversary of the first apparitions. He was so close to death that he was convinced that the Holy Mother had saved his life.
In 1982, the Marian shrine that St. John Paul II wanted to visit was the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, the Queen of Poland. Instead, he went to Fatima.
Being saved from death linked him more with Fatima than his Polish birth linked him with Czestochowa. In 1982, the shrine of the Black Madonna was marking its 600th anniversary. St. John Paul II dearly wanted to be present, but his 1979 visit to Poland for the 900th anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Stanislaus had so destabilized the communist regime that they would not permit the Holy Father to visit for an even more significant anniversary. (The visit would eventually be permitted in 1983.)
Growing up in Poland, Karol Wojtyla was aware of the Fatima apparitions and knew about their anti-communist dimension, as Our Lady spoke about the “conversion of Russia.” Yet it did not figure prominently in his piety.
