Conservatives are cautiously hopeful that Pope Leo XIV will restore rigor to the papacy

They went into last week’s conclave vastly outnumbered and smarting after being sidelined by Pope Francis for 12 years.

And yet conservatives and traditionalist Catholics are cautiously optimistic over the historic election of Pope Leo XIV, hopeful that he will return doctrinal rigor to the papacy, even as progressives sense he will continue Francis’ reformist agenda. …

Pope Leo XIV appeals for Gaza: ‘Allow aid to enter, end the hostilities’

“I renew my appeal to allow the entry of dignified humanitarian aid and to put an end to the hostilities, whose heartbreaking price is paid by the children, elderly, and the sick.”

Pope Leo XIV made that appeal toward the conclusion of his first General Audience in St. Peter’s Square on 21 May.

In his remarks to Italian pilgrims, he said, “The situation in the Gaza Strip is increasingly worrying and painful.”

White Sox Unveil Mural of Pope Leo

A mural of Pope Leo XIV was unveiled Monday at Rate Field of the Chicago White Sox, which depicts him as a fan of the baseball team.

The mural, according to Newsmax, shows the Supreme Pontiff as Pope Leo, and also when he and members of a local family cheered the team during their 2005 World Series victory. The artwork is located on a pillar near Section 140 at Rate Field, where there is also a representation of the photograph of the then-Father Robert Prevost with his longtime friend, the late Ed Schmit, and Schmit’s grandson, Eddie Schmit IV, cheering on the team.

Chinese FM expresses grave concern over US ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense system; program violates intl consensus

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday that the so-called “Golden Dome” missile defense system is a global, multi-level, multi-domain missile defense system. It openly seeks a significant expansion of outer space-based combat capabilities, including the development and deployment of orbital interception systems.

It carries clear offensive implications, violates the principle of peaceful use of outer space as advocated by the Outer Space Treaty, and will heighten the risks of space militarization and an arms race, undermining international security and arms control frameworks, Mao said.

Marco Rubio Shuts Down Globalist Sen. Chris Van Hollen

Secretary of State Marco Rubio coolly shut down criticisms from liberal Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) during a Senate hearing today.

“You and I served in Congress for 15 years. … I have to tell you directly and personally that I regret voting for you for Secretary of State,” Van Hollen railed at the former Senator during a Senate hearing.

“Your regret for voting for me confirms I’m doing a good job,”  Rubio testily retorted.

Dems Used Biden’s Infirmity To Push a Radical Agenda

Fox News Channel’s Greg Gutfeld said Tuesday night that for the Democratic Party and his staff, “a debilitated Biden was an ideal Biden.””They embraced his infirmity,” he said.

“They’re trying to present themselves as a loyal staff protecting an incapacitated leader, and yet the policies were anything but feeble.”

“It answers that huge paradox we were wondering about for four years: How did a candidate running as a reasonable centrist—a moderate—end up as the most left-wing, progressive president in history?” Gutfeld said. “The debilitation was deliberate. And the ideas that we saw coming happened because of that.”

Comey gets questioned about seashell post at book signing

Jesse Watters sent his correspondent Johnny to James Comey’s book signing to ask him two questions: “Why do you want to 86 Trump?” “Will you sign my seashell?”

Opinion: Comey’s Recent Behavior Confirms He’s Our Worst FBI Director

James B. Comey posted on Instagram a photo of seashells arranged to read “86 47,” which could be interpreted as a threat against the 47th president. Comey has since denied that he intended violence; nonetheless the Secret Service is reportedly investigating. This posting may have been a lapse of judgment on Comey’s part or something more nefarious.

Comey’s conduct in this instance, however, fits well with his previous anti-Trump behavior and demonstrably poor judgment. His judgment has been a serious concern for many of us who were proud to serve in the FBI and care about the bureau’s credibility and reputation. In his book and elsewhere, he described the sole origin of the FBI’s counterintelligence investigation of Trump’s first presidential campaign as based on a report “from an allied ambassador” of an encounter in London between a Trump adviser and “a Russian agent.”

With fewer migrants, Texas Catholic Charities turns to local homeless outreach

With fewer migrants arriving in South Texas, Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV) has shifted its focus from migrant assistance to serving the region’s growing homeless population.

Since 2014, CCRGV has operated a humanitarian respite center in downtown McAllen, originally created in response to an influx of immigrants dropped off by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, myRGV.com reported. At the height of border crossings, migrants arriving at the McAllen bus station received warm meals, showers, and clean clothes from the organization.

A Murderer Escapes From New Orleans Prison, And DEI Leadership Shrugs

“10 inmates escaped from a jail in New Orleans. Most of them still have not been caught. Is this another case of dysfunctional DEI leadership?”

“Well done, Ladies. You oversaw one of the worst prison breaks in US history. Girl power!”

“How do the prisoners escape in the first place and in order to answer this question that’s where you have to look at the leadership involved – namely, the sheriff, the police superintendent, and the police captain of this district as well as the mayor.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center Is the Real Hate Machine: The billion-dollar nonprofit that can’t tell a Nazi from a nun.

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) once fought the good fight. They took on the Ku Klux Klan and sued them into oblivion. This was a group that helped dismantle the architecture of violent racism in the American South. But that era is long gone. It’s dead. …

What remains is not a civil rights watchdog but a well-financed paranoia machine — bloated, sanctimonious, and politically drunk on its own self-righteousness.

Canada Might Begin Euthanizing Kids Without Parental Consent

Some of the politicians in the increasingly Communist and dictatorial country of Canada are reportedly still considering allowing kids to be euthanized — even without parental consent. …

It is incredible how everyone can agree that children and teens are not of age to decide they can get tattoos or drink alcohol, and leftists lose their minds at the proposal that minors should learn how to handle firearms safely. But at the same time, leftists screech that kids should be able to choose to receive cross-sex hormones and even permanently mutilating surgeries for “transgenderism” from the earliest ages. And in the future, apparently, the kids who are banned from buying cigarettes might be able to request suicide without their parents knowing.

Pope Leo and the Hermeneutics of Continuity

The speculations about what kind of pope Leo XIV will be range from outrageous scurrility to over enthusiastic embrace. I have read terrible things on the far end of the ultra “conservative” enclaves on the Internet and ridiculous things from the official liberal “Catholic” who seems to be whistling past the cemetery. Not only do some of the modernist voices chant “santo subito” about the recently deceased Holy Father, they want to make his successor a kind of Francis Redux.

Only God knows how things will work out, but I sincerely doubt that Pope Leo will be Francis 2.0 or even 1.5. I am just an observer from afar, but one of the things that I wonder about concerns the reaction of Cardinal Óscar Rodríguez Maradiaga to the pre-conclave meetings of the cardinals. …

Pope Leo honors Our Lady of Fatima at first general audience in St. Peter’s Square

Pope Leo XIV at his General Audience today says, “In this month dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, I would like to echo the invitation of Our Lady of Fatima: pray the rosary everyday for peace. Together with Mary let us ask that humanity not close itself off to this gift of God and that hearts may be disarmed.”
