Thousands showed up in person, and millions tuned in Sunday for the memorial of Charlie Kirk. …
Sunday’s memorial was held at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, the same state where Kirk’s Turning Point USA (TPUSA) organization is headquartered. Live performances of Christian music occurred between speeches. Videos of Kirk speaking to people at TPUSA events also appeared on monitors. …
Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, said people have responded to his death the way that her late husband would have wanted.
“After Charlie’s assassination, we didn’t see violence, we didn’t see rioting, we didn’t see revolution, instead we saw revival, with some people opening a Bible for the first time in a decade,” said Erika Kirk, now CEO of TPUSA. “We saw people pray for the first time since they were children, we saw people go to a church service for the first time in their entire lives.”

Erika Kirk forgives her husband’s killer in emotional memorial address
Standing before thousands at the memorial service for her late husband, conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Erika Kirk offered forgiveness for the man accused of taking his life.
“That young man. I forgive him,” Erika said with tears in her eyes. Authorities have identified the suspect in Kirk’s murder as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, described by his own conservative family as a “leftwing activist.”
Leaning heavily on her faith, Erika said that “Charlie wanted to save young men just like the one who took his life” and explained that she was forgiving Robinson “because it was what Christ did, and is what Charlie would do.”

Man who attempted to assassinate Kavanaugh now identifies as a woman
A man who pleaded guilty to attempting to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022 is now using a female name and pronouns, according to a court document filed Friday.
Nicholas Roske, who is scheduled to be sentenced next month, is using the name Sophie Roske and a “Ms.” title for the first time in a court filing in a case that has stretched for three years.
The court filing was a routine request in anticipation of Roske’s sentencing, which is set for Oct. 3. But the filing referenced Roske by the name “Sophie,” while a footnote revealed that Nicholas remains Roske’s legal first name.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan on Friday hailed Charlie Kirk as a “modern-day Saint Paul” – saying the slain conservative activist’s “gracious” debating style “can teach us something.”
Dolan, one of the leading figures in the Catholic Church, said he didn’t know who the Turning Point USA co-founder was when Kirk was fatally shot on a Utah college campus Sept. 10 — but then was quickly impressed as he started researching him.
“The more I learned about him, I thought, ‘This guy’s a modern-day Saint Paul,’ ” Dolan told “Fox and Friends.” “He was a missionary, he’s an evangelist, he’s a hero.

[Bishop] Paprocki ‘shocked’ by Durbin’s Chicago award
An Illinois bishop said Friday that he is “shocked” by plans in the Archdiocese of Chicago to honor Senator Dick Durbin, a longtime supporter of legal protection for abortion.
Durbin, who is prohibited from receiving the Eucharist in his home Diocese of Springfield, will be feted in November with a lifetime achievement award by the Archdiocese of Chicago’s office of human dignity and solidarity. …
“I was shocked to learn that the Archdiocese of Chicago plans to honor Senator Richard Durbin with a Lifetime Achievement Award,” Paprocki said in a Sept. 19 statement given in response to questions from The Pillar.
“Given Senator Durbin’s long and consistent record of supporting legal abortion — including opposing legislation to protect children who survive failed abortions — this decision risks causing grave scandal, confusing the faithful about the Church’s unequivocal teaching on the sanctity of human life,” Paprocki added.

Gunmen kill Catholic priest in Nigeria
… Some gunmen have killed a Catholic priest in Enugu State, Nigeria’s South-east.
Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that the Catholic priest, Matthew Eya, was shot dead on Friday evening along the Eha-Alumonah–Eha-Ndiagu Road in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.
Mr Eya, the parish priest of Saint Charles Catholic Church, Eha-Ndiagu, was said to be returning from Enugu Urban when the hoodlums ambushed him.
One of the witnesses, who did not want his name mentioned in the report, said the attackers, who were on a motorcycle, opened fire on the cleric upon sighting his Toyota Camry car.
A video clip, apparently recorded shortly after the attack, has been circulating on Facebook.
