Trump Underscores Second-Term Feats [at close of GOP midterm convention]
President Donald Trump continued to make the case for Republicans to retain control of both houses of Congress in a keynote speech Thursday at the GOP midterm convention in Dallas.
Trump spoke on both nights of the convention, reiterating many of the points he made from his address Wednesday.
“I’m seeing spirit like we haven’t seen in this country for a long time,” Trump said in his speech, which aired live on Newsmax. “We went through four years of embarrassment, hurt, harm, sickness, filth. It was bad, but now it’s good and it’s going to soon be greater than ever before, better than ever before.

Bishops reflect on 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks
“We remember those who died and the extraordinary courage, service, sacrifice, and compassion that followed,” New York Archbishop Ronald Hicks said.
Bishops across the country issued remarks, reflections, and prayers for the United States and the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks 25 years ago.
“Twenty-five years later, its memory lives on; in a new skyline, in simple plaques and great memorials, and in the photographs of first responders who were lost, still displayed outside of firehouses and police stations,” Archbishop Ronald Hicks of New York said in a statement.
“We remember those who died and the extraordinary courage, service, sacrifice, and compassion that followed,” Hicks said.
Hicks will celebrate an invitation-only Vigil Mass on Sept. 10 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral to commemorate all those affected by the terrorist attacks. It also will be available via livestream.

School District Tells Teachers To Not Link 9/11 Attacks With Islam, Fight ‘Anti-Muslim Bias’
The guidance focused on creating “safe places” for Muslim students.
An affluent Virginia school district located just miles from where Islamic terrorists crashed a plane into the Pentagon issued guidance for its teachers to not “associate” the devastating 9/11 attacks “with Islam or Muslims.”
Guidance from Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia told its teachers to be prepared to combat “anti-Muslim bias” in the classroom and to not connect the attacks with any religious motivation. The guidance, obtainedby FOX News, was issued ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
Fairfax County is located outside Washington, D.C., and just miles away from where the 9/11 terrorists crashed a plane into the Pentagon, killing over 180 people.

The main 2026 Charlie Kirk memorial service – the one-year anniversary event titled ‘Freedom Built to Last’ – was held on September 10, 2026, at the UCCU Center on the campus of Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah. It was organized by Turning Point USA as an act of remembrance at the site of Charlie’s 2025 assassination. It featured speakers such as Glenn Beck, drew roughly 5,000 attendees, and focused heavily on Charlie’s faith and legacy. A prayer vigil later formed nearby at the exact outdoor spot where Charlie was killed.

Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine’s view of the Declaration of Independence, which has received strong criticism from Republicans, runs contrary to recent polling on the subject of individual rights.
“The notion that rights don’t come from laws and don’t come from the government, but come from the Creator — that’s what the Iranian government believes. It’s a theocratic regime that bases its rule on Sharia law and targets Sunnis, Bahá’ís, Jews, Christians and other religious minorities,” Kaine declared at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Wednesday.

Lindsay Clancy’s Attorney Asks Judge for Acquittal
Lindsay Clancy’s lawyer asked a judge Thursday to enter a not-guilty finding in the killings of her three young children and block a second trial, arguing prosecutors never proved she was criminally responsible.
Kevin Reddington filed a renewed motion in Plymouth Superior Court for a required finding of not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility. The papers arrived less than a week after Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial when the jury deadlocked.
Clancy, 36, a former labor and delivery nurse from Duxbury, strangled 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan on Jan. 24, 2023, then tried to kill herself.
She has not been cleared of the killings. The dispute in court is whether she can be held responsible for them. Prosecutors have said Clancy planned the killings.
Reddington argued that the five-week trial left the state short of proof that she knew the acts were wrong or could obey the law.

Victimhood, vengeance and the refusal to suffer
… Reading an article about witchcraft posted by a friend of Rod Dreher, Tara Thieke, has provided the stimulus to comment because I think that, in terms of our attempt to read human encounters through a Catholic lens, the issues put before us are not so much by the trial as by the reaction to the trial. They are profound, confusing, challenging and perhaps indicative of a serious danger to our social cohesion, relations between the sexes, and a serious shift in spirituality and culture. …
In [Tara Thieke’s] introduction [to her book The Return of Witchcraft] she says she wanted to look at the cultural return of witchcraft and its origin in the shift away from Christianity. She charts how cultural shifts have opened a vacuum in which the obsession with glamour and control, the essence of witchcraft, has entered.
Before getting any further, it’s probably worth pointing out that the difference between men and women in their reaction to the Clancy trial verdict should not be presented as sympathy versus accountability, which is what it looks like at first sight.
It is, in fact, two different objects of sympathy in competition with each other. The feminine or feminist response locates compassion in the mother who has either failed or been failed by others, while the masculine response has compassion located in sympathy for the three children murdered by their mother, and the need to protect children from motherhood when it turns violent or destructive. …
The fallout in American society, particularly over the titanic trial of Lindsey [sic] Clancy, has exposed a deep and dangerous chasm between the weakened constraints of old Christendom and the rejuvenation of this new pagan quest for revenge and the celebration of victimhood.
