Trump cracks down on birth tourism with 2 executive orders
‘I thought we were going to win it at the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, we had a bad decision’
President Donald Trump, responding to the recent Supreme Court declaration that apparently gives the right to U.S. citizenship to any newborn from anywhere in the world whose mother crosses the U.S. national border and makes it onto U.S. territory before giving birth, has issued two executive orders addressing the crisis.
He used the court’s own explanations by labeling “alien enemies of the United States, members of foreign terrorist organizations and large categories of people who lobby and act on behalf of foreign governments” as ineligible.
That statement essentially identifies “certain categories of children of aliens who are not entitled to birthright citizenship consistent with historial exceptions to birthright citizenship recognized by the Supreme Court” in previous rulings.
The orders also delegate to the Secretary of State and Secretary of Homeland Security authority to halt birth tourism.
Trump said it was “a very unfortunate decision in the Supreme Court … so we’re making adjustments.”
Trump warned, “They’ve taken birthright citizenship and they’ve made a joke out of it.”

The FBI opened an investigation into whether President Trump was acting as a Russian asset after he fired FBI Director James Comey in 2017, newly declassified memos show.
Why it matters: The release of the files on the probe, known as “Oxferd Comma,” revives one of the most consequential episodes in the Trump-Comey saga and comes months after Trump’s Department of Justice again put the former FBI director under criminal indictment. …
Asked why the Trump administration was releasing memos previously marked as a “sensitive investigative matter” now, an administration official said the president had directed the White House Government Transparency Task Force to identify previously undisclosed evidence of what the administration views as government weaponization….
Investigators examined whether Trump was “wittingly or unwittingly” involved in activities for or on behalf of Russia, “which may constitute violations of federal criminal law or threats to the national security of the United States,” according to one of the declassified memos.

Afghan Migrant Facing Murder Charges Gets Bizarrely Positive Media Coverage

An Afghan migrant granted asylum in Greece appeared before an investigating magistrate in Athens on Wednesday, 5 August, accused of killing a Scottish charity worker, placing her body in a suitcase and abandoning it in a derelict building. Sharif Ahmadzai, 26, received another 24 hours to prepare his response and is due back on Thursday, when a decision on pre-trial detention is expected.
Elisabeth-Jane Ross, 38, was found on 18 July wrapped in black fabric inside a green suitcase in the Kypseli district. She had disappeared three days earlier. Decomposition prevented pathologists from determining an exact cause of death, although police said asphyxiation had not been ruled out. …
Ahmadzai denies killing Ross but reportedly admits moving her body and using her cards. He initially claimed that he found her dead or dying and panicked, then introduced an elderly stranger called ‘Nikos’, who allegedly advised him to dispose of the corpse. …
That sympathetic narrative had been pushed long before his arrest. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies commissioned an animated film, Game of Life: The Story of Sharif, portraying his escape from Afghanistan and encouraging audiences to see the person behind the label ‘refugee’. His ministry later promoted him as a Christian mentor serving migrant boys through boxing, English lessons and faith. He was, basically, a poster boy whom humanitarian organizations could present as proof of successful integration.
