Secret Service: Armed Man Shot and Killed After Entering Mar-a-Lago Secure Perimeter

An armed man drove into the secure perimeter of Mar-a-Lago, President Donald Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida, before being shot and killed early Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service. Trump was not there but was at the White House in Washington.

The man, who was in his early 20s and from North Carolina, had a gas can and a shotgun, according to Anthony Guglielmi, the spokesman. He said a box for the weapon was discovered in the man’s vehicle after the incident, which took place around 1:30 a.m.

Investigators identified the man killed as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin, according to a person familiar with the matter. The person was not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Major drug lord ‘El Mencho’ killed in Mexican military operation with US intelligence support

Major Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera, known as “El Mencho,” was killed in a military operation Sunday morning, the country’s Defense Department announced, marking one of Mexico’s most significant blows to organized crime amid pressure from President Donald Trump to intensify the crackdown on drug cartels.

The announcement came as government officials warned of clashes in Jalisco state and widespread criminal activity across the country, prompting the U.S. Embassy in Mexico to issue shelter-in-place advisories for multiple states.

On Sunday, Mexican troops reportedly conducted operations in Tapalpa, Jalisco, targeting Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, a former police officer who became the elusive leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a major supplier of fentanyl to the United States.

Mexican Bishops call for peace amid violence in their country

Following the killing of a Mexican drug lord in a military operation and subsequent organized crime violence erupting in various parts of the country, Mexico’s Bishops are calling for restraint, prayers, and prudence, warning against unnecessary travel at this time.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor let them be afraid.” (Jn 14:27)

With this quote, the Bishops of Mexico begin the letter they released titled “the People of God who journey as pilgrims in Mexico” to address rampant violence in the country.

In the statement signed by Bishop Ramón Castro Castro, President of the Mexican Episcopal Conference, and Bishop Héctor M. Pérez Villarreal, Secretary General of the Mexican Episcopal Conference, they call for intensified prayers for peace and also warn against unnecessary travel during this dramatic time.

‘So Proud To Be Americans’: U.S. Men’s Hockey Team Defeats Canada In Overtime Battle For Olympic Gold

In a game for the ages, the U.S. men’s national hockey team defeated Canada in the 2026 Winter Olympics championship on Sunday. The victory came on the 46th anniversary of the infamous 1980 Miracle on Ice, which was the last year the American men’s team won gold.

The Americans’ road to the winner’s circle was by no means an easy feat.

While a first-period goal by forward Matt Boldy gave Team USA an early 1-0 lead, the Canadians came raging back and tied the game in the concluding minutes of the second period to set up a tense final 20 minutes of play. Thanks to a series of incredible saves by American goalie Connor Hellebuyck during the third period, the matchup remained scoreless and went to overtime.

21 children have been discovered in a Southern California home, all conceived via surrogacy

21 children have been discovered in a Southern California home, all conceived via surrogacy. The discovery came after a local hospital reported suspected child neglect when a 2-month-old suffered severe head trauma, appearing to have been shaken, dropped, or subjected to a traumatic incident. When Arcadia police investigated, they found 21 children inside the home. The couple, Silvia Zhang and Guojun Xuan, are Chinese-born residents. These children were not welcomed into a loving family with a mother and father. They were intentionally created, separated from their biological mothers, and treated as products to satisfy adult desires.

U.S. lawmakers, state attorneys general urge FDA to block mail-order abortion drugs

Twenty-one state attorneys general, as well as dozens of U.S. senators and representatives, have voiced their support for Louisiana’s lawsuit challenging the Biden-era policy that enables abortion pills to be sent by mail.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) policy removed previously held safety rules that required in-person physician visits before the chemical abortion regimen could be prescribed.

Multiple studies have shown high rates of hospitalizations for women taking the abortion pill, leading pro-life advocates and Republicans to urge the Trump administration to take action. Though the FDA safeguards could be reinstated, the White House has failed to do so.

Same-day assisted suicide in Canada, report reveals

People in Canada are having their lives ended by assisted dying on the same day that requests are made, adding to fears that wrongful deaths may be occurring.

An official report by the Chief Coroner of Ontario’s Medical Assistance in Dying Death Review Committee (MDRC) highlighted that, in 2023, 65 people in Ontario had their lives ended by Canada’s assisted suicide and euthanasia programme on the same day that they made their requests to do so. A further 154 people had their lives ended the day after their request was made.

These same-day suicides, which comprise both assisted suicide and euthanasia, include the case of Mrs B, a woman in her 80s who suffered from complications following coronary artery bypass graft surgery and who chose to receive palliative care support at home.

Praying Before St. Francis’ Bones: Thousands Convene in Assisi on First Day of Historic Viewing

Hundreds of pilgrims lined up before dawn on Sunday to be among the first to pray before the exposed relics of St. Francis in his basilica in Assisi, Italy.

The saint’s bones will lie in a glass box through March 22 — fully visible outside the stone tomb in a crypt where they usually rest — as hundreds of thousands of people venerate the holy remains.

A highly organized system with QR code reservations allowed approximately 750 people to enter the lower church of the basilica every 30 minutes through most of the day Feb. 22 to view the saint.
