El-Sayed wins Michigan Senate primary; CatholicVote warns of ‘radical socialist policies’
The progressive candidate defeated establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens and will face Republican Mike Rogers after a campaign marked by El-Sayed’s alliance with socialist streamer Hasan Piker and controversial positions on immigration, abortion, and America’s founding.
Abdul El-Sayed won Michigan’s Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in the state’s Aug. 4 primary, NBC News projected early Aug. 5, defeating establishment-backed Rep. Haley Stevens and advancing to a November contest against Republican Mike Rogers.
CatholicVote Vice President of Advocacy Joshua Mercer urged Michigan Catholics to oppose El-Sayed in the general election.
“Abdul El-Sayed campaigned with radical streamer Hasan Piker, who praised Chairman Mao and said America deserved 9/11,” Mercer told Zeale News. “Bishop Robert Barron has warned Catholics about this new wave of Democratic Socialist candidates who are essentially communist. Catholic voters in Michigan must reject Abdul El-Sayed’s radical socialist policies and elect Mike Rogers to the Senate this November.”

Abdul El-Sayed Touts Endorsements From Detroit Pastor He Paid $75,000 for ‘Consulting’: Arrangement Recalls Kamala Harris’s Payments to Al Sharpton
Horace Sheffield III was suspended from his previous radio show for a similar, questionable financial arrangement with a different far-left candidate
Influential Detroit pastor and radio host Horace Sheffield III enthusiastically endorsed Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed during a radio interview last week, urging listeners to make “5 and 10 phone calls” to help propel the left-wing Democrat to victory. Unmentioned in the glowing interview was that El-Sayed’s campaign has paid tens of thousands of dollars to Sheffield’s nonprofit organization.
El-Sayed’s campaign has paid $75,000 to Ecumenical Ministers Alliance, a nonprofit that Sheffield incorporated in 2010, for “political consulting,” according to campaign finance disclosures. The campaign has made 10 payments of $7,500 to the nonprofit from Oct. 21 to June 1, records show.
Sheffield was suspended from his previous radio station in 2018 after he endorsed the failed gubernatorial candidate Rep. Shri Thanedar (D., Mich.), who’d paid his nonprofit tens of thousands of dollars, also for “consulting.”
Last week’s radio interview is at least the third time Sheffield, the pastor of New Destiny Christian Fellowship, has boosted El-Sayed on his radio show or in social media posts, all without disclosing the financial relationship. The pastor’s endorsements are especially helpful to El-Sayed, who badly trails his primary opponent, Rep. Haley Stevens, in support from black voters.

Garland Favorito, the co-founder of Trusted Election Results in Georgia (VoterGA), released an urgent message on Monday calling on President Trump to declare a national emergency to save our US elections.
Garland released his statement just weeks after President Trump revealed that the intelligence agencies had become so corrupted that they hid “Chinese election intrusion” from the US President in the run-up of the 2020 election.
President Trump released one set of documents following his July 16 address to the nation that the National Security Agency (NSA) along with other groups in the Intelligence Community withheld election manipulation evidence from Congress and the Presidential Daily Briefing (PDB) throughout the 2020 Presidential election cycle.
Favorito continues, “One such document shows an NSA Strategic Intelligence Analyst admitting that: ‘We have deliberately massaged our one pending PDB to avoid any direct links to the election.’”

11th Circuit revives Florida’s ban on kids attending drag shows
A dissenting opinion from five appellate judges said Florida “purposely created a mess-around-and-find-out statute to chill drag.”
The Sunshine State can ban minors from attending “adult live performances” like drag shows, the full bench of the 11th Circuit decided in a divided opinion Tuesday.
“We will not second-guess the Florida Legislature’s decision to regulate obscenity,” wrote U.S. Circuit Judge Andrew Brasher on behalf of the majority. “Preventing children from attending adult live performances obscene for them is rationally related to Florida’s interest in safeguarding the well-being of minors.”
In an 8-5 decision, the federal appellate court overturned a Florida federal judge’s injunction blocking state officials from enforcing the Protection of Children Act. Although a divided three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit last year upheld the injunction, a majority of judges voted to vacate that decision in December and reheard the case en banc in June.
Florida becomes the fifth state to actively ban minors from adult live performances along with Arkansas, North Dakota, Tennessee and Texas. In March, the Ninth Circuit upheld a decision blocking Montana from enforcing its ban on drag story hours while a First Amendment challenge proceeds.

Cardinal says Nigeria’s president has rejected bishops’ concerns about state of country
Cardinal John Onaiyekan brought concerns and feedback of the Nigerian bishops to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 28.
Members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) delivered a candid assessment of the country’s economic, security, and political challenges to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but the head of state made it clear that he disagreed with the bishops’ diagnosis, according to Cardinal John Onaiyekan.
Speaking to ARISE NEWS on July 31, Onaiyekan said the president responded directly to the concerns raised by the Catholic bishops during a July 28 meeting at the State House in Abuja and made it clear that he did not share their assessment of the situation in the country.
The cardinal said the CBCN members nevertheless considered it their responsibility to speak honestly about the realities facing Nigerians.
“When the nation is bleeding, you cannot expect a polite meeting with the head of state,” Onaiyekan said.

Watching the building burn was no easier on a movie screen than it was seven years ago. …

“A lot of buildings come and go. A lot of buildings burn down,” said the Rev. Steve Grunow, CEO of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries. “But this one—when it was burning, everyone was trembling. And then we didn’t just knock it down and put something in its place. People from all over the world contributed to the restoration of that building. And I think it’s because most of us knew intuitively, if that goes, we are all diminished in some way.”
For Barron, that instinct is an argument against the relativism he says has hollowed out the culture.
“If you take something seriously, you stop being a relativist,” he said. “All this appeal to relativism and ‘my truth, your truth.’ We say those things as long as we don’t really care. Once we care about something, we get very interested in the objectivity of it.”
That, he said, is why he thinks young people are turning to the faith in larger numbers today: “That drab materialism and relativism, it produces no energy in the soul.”

Todd Blanche Says Trump Admin Will Stop Mail-Order Abortions
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Christian leaders in a recent call that the Trump administration is putting practices and policies in place to stop other states and abortion organizations from mailing abortion drugs into states that protect unborn children.
He says the Trump administration is working to make the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision permanent in every state.
In a private call last week hosted by the White House Faith Office, Blanche said the Department of Justice is collaborating with federal health agencies, the White House and President Trump’s team on “permanent solutions.”
“If states have said, ‘We are going to protect the unborn and we’re going to protect every life from the moment of conception,’ we’re putting practices and policies in place so that other states and other organizations can’t attack that,” Blanche said. “They can’t do things like they’re doing with mailing in mail-order drugs.”
