Vance casts tie-breaking votes to move forward $9.4B rescissions package — which would defund PBS and NPR — in Senate
Vice President JD Vance cast two tie-breaking votes in the Senate Tuesday to move forward a $9.4 billion rescissions package — which would rip federal funding from PBS and NPR — in the upper chamber.
The Senate deadlocked, 50-50, on two procedural votes to start debate on the multibillion-dollar spending clawback package before Vance’s votes advanced the measure requested by the White House.
Three Republicans — Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) — joined all Democrats in opposition to the bill.

Violent Attacks Against ICE Escalate
As the immigration debacle grows ever more violent, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and law enforcement agents have increasingly been the target of physical attacks and even shootings. The Epoch Times reported that “some of it has crossed the line between free speech and physical violence.”
It all started in early June, during the ICE protests, when Los Angeles plunged into riots, as rioters flung glass bottles, rocks, and other blunt objects at officers. Others set fire to cars or engaged in physical altercations with police.

CA Senate passes bill to let LA buy fire-destroyed lots for low-income housing
The California Senate passed a bill to allow Los Angeles County and other municipalities to use property taxes to fund “Resilient Rebuilding Authorities” that would have to use at least 40% of their funding for building low-income housing. Senate Bill 549 now has a hearing in the state Assembly scheduled for Wednesday.
As a funding mechanism, the bill would allow the RRA for the Los Angeles wildfires to “Issue, receive, and administer funds, including, but not limited to, tax-increment financing, federal loans and grants, state loans and grants, and philanthropic grants, to support recovery.”

18 States Are Still Letting Dudes Dominate Girls’ Sports, Compliance Tracker Shows
Eighteen states are still dodging Trump’s executive order that protects women by keeping biological boys out of girls’ sports, Defending Education’s (DE) compliance tracker shows.
The conservative organization’s tracker assessed whether the 50 states are complying with “Title IX regarding single-sex spaces and single-sex interscholastic athletics” in line with President Donald Trump’s executive order “defending women from gender ideology extremism.” Eighteen states were found to be openly defiant of the order that “protect[s] all-female athletic opportunities and all-female locker rooms” based on “public statements made by state officials or state policies,” the tracker says.

West Virginia ban on abortion medication upheld
A divided federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld West Virginia’s near-total ban on abortion, including limits on the widely used medication abortion drug mifepristone.
The 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, said the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of mifepristone did not preempt West Virginia’s law as applied to medication abortions, which account for more than half of U.S. abortions.
