Republicans are flocking to Texas for an unprecedented national midterm convention headlined by President Trump to turn out voters in the congressional races that will dictate the course of his final two years in office — though some Republicans are nervous it could backfire.
The two-day gathering — nicknamed “Trump-a-Palooza” — offers free publicity for Republicans as they attempt to brand Democrats as “socialists” and features a slew of fundraising events to help the party boost its already large cash advantage to beat back bleak polls pointing to a possible November wipeout.
Trump will speak on Wednesday and Thursday night after 9 p.m. Eastern Time — with Vice President JD Vance also giving remarks Thursday.
Earlier slots will feature Trump administration officials touting policy wins and give lesser-known figures a moment in the spotlight to court donors and build momentum before a national audience.
Many speakers plan to frame the election as a choice between Trump’s record and the ascendant socialist wing of the Democratic Party, sources said, as Republicans try to defy the historical trend of a president’s party losing seats in a midterm.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday remembered the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks ahead of the 25th anniversary on Friday, and presented a posthumous Presidential Medal of Freedom to Welles Crowther, who saved 18 lives in the South Tower.
The president and Tunnel to Towers hosted the event on the Ellipse, where the president honored the 2,977 victims killed in New York City, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93.
“On 9/11, nearly 3,000 precious souls were stolen from us, killed by evil terrorists at theWorld Trade Center, the Pentagon, and on Flight 93,” Trump said. “All of these years later, we gather on another Tuesday morning in September to reaffirm the sacred vow we madea quarter of a century ago: We will never forget.”
A beam from the south tower of the World Trade Center, weighing 16,000 pounds and spanning 21 feet, was on display at the Ellipse. The beam was part of a multi-city tour before Tuesday’s solemn event in the nation’s capital.

The Trump administration is drafting a rule that would allow certain married couples with a stay-at-home parent to qualify for federal child care assistance of about $9,000 per child annually, according to people familiar with the discussions who spoke with The New York Times.
The reported proposal would expand eligibility under the Child Care and Development Fund, a roughly $12 billion Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) program that currently subsidizes care for children from low- and moderate-income parents while their parents work, attend school, or participate in job training.
Under the draft rule, a new category of “parent-based child care” would allow one married parent to receive assistance to care for the couple’s child while the other spouse works at least 35 hours a week, according to the Times. The payments would come from the program’s existing funding rather than a new congressional appropriation.
