US sends 15-point peace proposal to Iran amid conflict in the Middle East
The United States reportedly proposed a 15-point peace plan to Iran Tuesday as it looks to negotiate an end to the nearly month-long conflict in the Middle East.
The proposal’s main focus is on Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, which the U.S. has targeted with missile strikes during the conflict, according to the New York Times.
President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that Iran has already agreed to never develop a nuclear weapon, marking a significant victory for the United States and Israel after Trump bombed Iran’s nuclear facilities last year.

Trump Upbeat on Iran Deal Despite New Attacks
President Donald Trump said Tuesday he was upbeat about the chances of a negotiated deal with Iran, even as Israel and Tehran traded new blows and the United States was reported to be sending more troops to the region.
The latest violence included what Iran said was a second strike during the war on the Bushehr nuclear plant, a civilian site perilously close to Gulf population centers, leading the United Nations nuclear watchdog to urge “maximum restraint”.
Trump, whose pronouncements in recent days have swung wildly from vowing massive attacks on Iran to declaring the nearly monthlong war virtually over, said the United States was “in negotiations right now” with Iran — which has not confirmed any formal talks.

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, O.F.M., said that amid the Iran war, he is in “constant dialogue with the competent authorities” and that churches remain open.
“The traditional Palm Sunday procession, which goes up to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, to Jerusalem is canceled,” he announced. “It will be replaced by a moment of prayer for the city of Jerusalem, at a location to be determined.”

Supreme Court Voices Skepticism About States Accepting Mail-In Ballots After Election Day
The U.S. Supreme Court appeared skeptical on Monday about the legality of state laws permitting election officials to accept mail-in ballots after Election Day.
The moment came during oral arguments for Watson v. RNC, which deals with a challenge to a Mississippi law authorizing absentee ballots to be accepted up to five days after Election Day so long as they are postmarked before or on the day of the contest. Mississippi appealed to the high court after the 5th Circuit Court determined that the state statute is preempted by federal laws designating an official Election Day.

Parents invoke Vatican law to fight Chicago archdiocese school closure
Parents at St. Hubert Catholic School in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, have appealed to the Vatican to overturn the Archdiocese of Chicago’s decision to close the 65-year-old school at the end of this school year.
The archdiocese announced Jan. 26 that it would close five Catholic grade schools at the end of the school year, citing low enrollment and ongoing financial strain. Greg Richmond, the archdiocesan superintendent of schools, said the archdiocese made the decisions “with heavy hearts after months of discussions with each school.”
“Many people have worked hard at each school to raise money and try to boost enrollment,” Richmond said. “We recognize and value those efforts but, in the end, the schools were not able to close the gaps and they are no longer sustainable.”
St. Hubert, which serves about 200 students, — was one of them.

‘The Deepest Reality of the Greatest Event Ever to Take Place’ – Essay by Matthew Walz
For Lent this year, I resolved to pray the Angelus in the morning, at midday, and in the evening – a practice, of course, long a part of Catholic piety. In my adult life, I’ve been up and down in adhering to this practice, and this year I wanted to fix that. (Please don’t ask how I’ve done thus far!)
I was inspired to make this resolution by a passage in St. John Paul II’s Gift and Mystery, which he published on the 50th anniversary of his ordination. This dense little book tells JPII’s “vocation story.”
For a man who chose “Totus Tuus” as his episcopal motto, it’s no surprise that Mary played an influential role in that story. From early on in life, it appears Karol Wojtyla prayed the Angelus three times a day. Indeed, while working in the stone quarry as a young man, Karol would pause at midday, put down what he was carrying, and silently pray the Angelus – a sight that his fellow workers found admirable, but also somewhat amusing. Such is the fate of a fool for Mary!
By learning more about Mary and then consecrating himself to her (under the guidance of St. Louis de Montfort), young Karol “came to understand why the Church says the Angelus three times a day.” The “powerful words” of this prayer, he writes, “express the deepest reality of the greatest event ever to take place in all of history.” …
