Joe Concha calls for censure of Chris Murphy for blaming Brown University shooting on Trump

Washington Examiner senior writer Joe Concha suggested Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) should be “censured” for implying that President Donald Trump is on a “campaign to increase violence.”

Murphy appeared on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday in the hours after a gunman opened fire on Brown University’s campus, killing two and injuring nine others. According to Murphy, this latest mass shooting event was “not shocking.”

“Over the last year, President Trump has been engaged in a dizzying campaign to increase violence in this country,” Murphy said. “He is restoring gun rights to felons and people who have lost their ability to buy guns. He has stopped funding mental health grants and community anti-gun violence grants that Republicans and Democrats supported in that 2022 bill.”

“So he’s engaged in a deliberate campaign to make violence more likely in this country, and I think you’re unfortunately going to see the results on the streets of America,” Murphy added.

U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan to receive “Protector of America Award” from Catholics for Catholics

Everyone’s talking about immigration – it’s a hot topic in today’s political discourse. Catholics for Catholics wants to recognize a seriously underreported aspect of the immigration issue: the good work that many members of our law enforcement are doing to make our communities safer and most importantly, rescue kids.

Did you know since President Trump took office this year, more than 62,000 migrant children have been rescued from forced labor and sex trafficking? Most of the media including Church leaders simply won’t talk about this. “Over half a million children were smuggled into this country under Joe Biden,” US Border Czar Tom Homan said in a recent interview. “Four years this has happened: sex trafficking historic highs, children crossing the border historic highs, migrant deaths crossing the border historic highs.”

US Bishops’ New Immigration Chairman Responds to Critiques From Catholics – Bishop Brendan Cahill engaged with criticisms and says he hopes Catholics will ‘move beyond talking past one another’ on the contentious issue

Immigration is a divisive issue, including within the Catholic Church.

Despite the U.S. bishops’ concerted opposition to elements of President Donald Trump’s immigration-enforcement campaign, especially mass deportation, the president’s approach has the support of a majority of American Catholics — including the most sacramentally active.

According to a just-released EWTN News/RealClear Opinion Research poll, 54% of Catholic voters say they support “the detention and deportation of unauthorized immigrants on a broad scale.” The level of support is even higher — 58% — among Catholics who attend Mass at least weekly.

Priests, laypeople, Poor Clare nun among 124 20th-century martyrs beatified in Spain

The Diocese of Jaén in Spain will celebrate on Dec. 13 the beatification of 109 priests, 14 laypeople, and one Poor Clare nun martyred during the Spanish Civil War.

With the addition of these 124 new blesseds, the number of 20th-century martyrs in Spain recognized by the Catholic Church rises to 2,254, 11 of whom have been canonized.

The beatification ceremony will be presided over by Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, and will take place in Assumption Cathedral in Jaén, where some of the new blesseds spent their last days before being murdered out of hatred for the faith.

Pope Leo Highlights Divorce Crisis In U.S. Roman Catholic Churches

In addition to the sexual abuse scandal that has plagued the Roman Catholic Church, there’s another threatening the very foundation of Catholic beliefs on marriage and family: an annulment process that often violates church teaching. The crisis is particularly acute in the United States, where marriage annulments have proliferated.

On Nov. 21, Pope Leo XIV delivered a speech to the Rota, the church’s “supreme court,” warning that “human judgment on the nullity of marriage cannot…be manipulated by false mercy.” He indicated that compassion for those going through annulment proceedings should “never [come] at the expense of truth.” The only question in marriage annulment proceedings, he said, is whether a valid marriage existed at the time of the wedding “despite any relational failure.”
