Catholics Rally Against Illinois Gov. Pritzker Who Is Signing Assisted Suicide Bill Into Law on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe

“Pope Leo XIV’s message of hope, compassion, unity, and peace resonates with Illinoisans of all faiths and traditions,” Illinois Governor JB Pritzker wrote just a few weeks ago after meeting with the Chicago-born pope at the Vatican. Now Pritzker has selected December 12, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to sign an assisted suicide bill into law.

Against the objections of disability rights groups and religious leaders, Governor Pritzker is signing SB 1950, or the “End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act,” into law. The bill legalizes assisted suicide and allows patients to self-administer life-ending medication with the review of two physicians and two witnesses. In the Senate, which voted 30-27 to pass the bill, every “yes” vote came from a Democrat and eight Democrats joined the remaining 19 Republicans to vote against the measure.

With its calls for “strong, traditional families” and the “reinvigoration of American spiritual and cultural health,” the latest National Security Strategy is a major departure not only from its immediate predecessor, but even the first Trump administration’s.

A longer version of the NSS that circulated before the White House published the unclassified version late Thursday night shares the main points: competition with China, withdrawal from Europe’s defense, a new focus on the Western Hemisphere. But the unpublished version also proposes new vehicles for leadership on the world stage and a different way to put its thumb on the scales of Europe’s future—through its cultural values.

House passes $900B defense bill with pay hike for troops, Golden Dome tech and more

The US House of Representatives passed the annual defense bill Wednesday, outlining a $900 billion budget that would give troops a 4% pay bump, help counter China and Russia, support new technologies like the Golden Dome missile defense system and promote military readiness, among other provisions.

The House voted 312-112 to adopt the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2026.

The Senate will have to approve the bill before sending it to President Trump’s desk for a signature, though an earlier version cleared the upper chamber in October. …

Funds for defense will also go toward key allies like Israel, which will get $60 million in American missiles for its Iron Dome defense system.

Ukraine will receive $800 million through 2027 as part of a security assistance initiative that allows Kyiv to buy weapons for its military from US companies.

Indiana Senate Votes Against Congressional Map That Could Help Trump Avoid Impeachment

The Indiana State Senate, which has a GOP supermajority, has voted against a redistricting bill that would have likely given Republicans two additional seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Control of the House in next year’s midterms is critical for Republicans, who fear that a Democrat majority would try to impeach President Donald Trump.

The final tally was 19-to-31. Republicans have a 40-to-10 advantage over Democrats in the upper chamber, but 21 Republicans joined the 10 Democrats in voting no.

The Republican state senators who voted against the bill are Eric Bassler, Vaneta Becker, Mike Bohacek, Rodric Bray, Brian Buchanan, Jim Buck, Brett Clark, Ed Charbonneau, Michael Crider, Spencer Deery, Dan Dernulc, Blake Doriot, Sue Glick, Greg Goode, Travis Holdman, Jean Leising, Ryan Mishler, Rick Niemeyer, Linda Rogers, Kyle Walker, and Greg Walker.

Tim Walz Pledges To ‘Welcome More’ Somalis Into Minnesota as Evidence of Staggering Fraud Scheme Makes National Headlines

Minnesota governor Tim Walz (D.) is pledging to bring more Somalis to his state as he grapples with the fallout from a massive Somali welfare fraud scheme that occurred under his watch.

“We are going to defend our neighbors,” Walz said at a Tuesday fundraiser, according to the Center Square. “Instead of demonizing our Somali community, we’re going to do more to welcome more in.”

The remarks come as Walz faces criticism for his administration’s failure to prevent a sprawling welfare fraud scheme orchestrated by Somalis living in Minnesota. Much of the fraud, which amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars, occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic but has gained national attention only in recent weeks.

Congressman Eric Swalwell continues struggling to conceal the fact that he has not maintained a California home for the past five years, a constitutional requirement to run for Governor of California.

The controversy intensified last month following my revelations that Swalwell listed his Washington, D.C. house as his “principal residence” on legally binding mortgage documents, directly contradicting the residency qualifications under California law.

Trump grants ‘full pardon’ to Tina Peters after 2020 election interference conviction

President Donald Trump granted a “full pardon” to former Mesa County, Colorado, Clerk Tina Peters, though it may not be able to save her from prison.

Peters was convicted in 2024 on state charges for her role in trying to overturn the 2020 election, and her appeal is still working through the Colorado courts. As presidential pardons are traditionally only granted for federal charges, it may not have an effect. Nevertheless, Trump accused Democrats of hypocrisy over Colorado’s prosecution of Peters.

“For years, Democrats ignored Violent and Vicious Crime of all shapes, sizes, colors, and types. Violent Criminals who should have been locked up were allowed to attack again. Democrats were also far too happy to let in the worst from the worst countries so they could rip off American Taxpayers. Democrats only think there is one crime – Not voting for them!” he wrote in his symbolic pardon on Truth Social.

‘Birthright Citizenship’ Is A Feudal Relic That Has No Place In America

With the Supreme Court’s announcement last week that it will hear a case challenging President Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for children of illegal immigrants, the internet has been awash in debate over the meaning of Section One of the 14th Amendment.

That’s the part that says, “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.” At issue is what the phrase, “subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” really means. Does it mean anyone physically present inside U.S. territory, even foreign nationals who illegally crossed the border? Are the children of those people American citizens simply because they were born on U.S. soil?

Poll finds signs of a confession revival in France

A new poll suggests that the sacrament of confession may be experiencing a revival in France, at least among regular Massgoers.

A survey conducted by the Ifop polling firm for Bayard-La Croix concluded that 50% of the country’s weekly Massgoers attend confession, also known as the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

The poll, whose results were published Dec. 8 by the Catholic daily newspaper La Croix, which is owned by Bayard Presse, also found that 36% of those who attend Mass at least once a month frequent the sacrament.

Among those who go to Mass less than once a month but are still engaged with the faith, 7% attend confession, compared with 12% among those who attend Mass mainly on special occasions.
