Trump-backed nationalist clinches Poland’s presidency
Nationalist Karol Nawrocki, backed by U.S. President Donald Trump, clinched the Polish presidency in a tight run-off race that spells trouble for the country’s current pro-EU government.
A final count showed Nawrocki, who stood for the opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party that lost its majority in 2023, secured 50.89% of votes against the 49.11% of rival Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski. Early results released before polls closed had put the liberal in the lead.

Kansas satanists plan new protest, won’t face charges in Catholic clash at Statehouse
Members of the Kansas satanist group appear to be off the hook for criminal charges that stemmed from a highly anticipated, hotly criticized black mass demonstration at the Statehouse that resulted in clashes with Catholics and, ultimately, their arrests.
Shawnee County prosecutors decided Wednesday not to pursue charges against Michael Stewart, leader of the Satanic Grotto, and two other group members. After the court hearing, Stewart returned to the Statehouse to discuss the details of his next protest with law enforcement.

Cardinal Eijk: JPII Institute and Pontifical Academy for Life must be ‘clear and unambiguous’
Cardinal Willem Eijk of Utrecht has a reputation among his brother cardinals as a clear and outspoken voice on issues of life and bioethics.
His plainspoken manner, typical of a Dutchman, has earned him critics too, both inside and outside of the Church, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
But it has also earned him a reputation for clarity in times of confusion, especially in a country like the Netherlands, which has pioneered the legalization and practice of euthanasia, abortion, same-sex marriage, and transgender activism.

Marriage is the measure of true love between a man and a woman,’ Pope Leo tells jubilee crowd
In his homily, Pope Leo XIV emphasized that marriage represents “not an ideal but the measure of true love between a man and a woman: a love that is total, faithful and fruitful.”
The pope highlighted several beatified married couples as exemplars for today’s world, including Louis and Zélie Martin, parents of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, and Blessed Luigi and Maria Beltrame Quattrocchi, who lived in Rome in the last century. He also remembered the Polish Ulma family, “parents and children, united in love and martyrdom” during World War II.

Michelle Obama says creating life 'least of' what women's reproductive system does

Postcard From Brussels: My Day in the Capital of Declining Europe – essay by Rod Dreher
Last week at an event at the European Parliament, an MEP asked me a question that I hear often: “Does JD Vance hate Europe?”
My guess is that he does not hate the Europe of tête de veau in a Rive Gauche brasserie in Paris, of Sunday mass at the Duomo in Milan, of Alpine lakes in Switzerland, or of paintings at the Alte Pinothek in Munich.
What he hates is Brussels ... the symbol of official, bureaucratic Europe, and the dictatorship of managerial liberalism administered from there. He hates the Europe of decrees from the European Commission, of the Digital Services Act circumscribing the access of EU citizens to knowledge and information, and of the EU ruling class refusing to face the overwhelming problem of mass migration, and act to stop it.
