Cardinal Reina has been appointed as the head of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage. Archbishop Paglia, who had pursued a more controversial and liberal course, has been removed.


According to the Vatican press office, “The Holy Father has appointed His Eminence Cardinal Baldassare Reina, vicar general of His Holiness for the diocese of Rome and Grand Chancellor of the Pontifical Lateran University, as Grand Chancellor for the Pontifical ‘John Paul II’ Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences.

Zelenskyy gifts Pope icon painted on ammunition box brought from front line

During their meeting on Sunday 18 May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented Pope Leo XIV with a unique icon painted on part of a box that had been used to store heavy artillery munitions and was brought from the Izium area in Kharkiv Oblast.

Vance & Zelensky Repair Relationship In 'Good' Vatican Meeting

Amid ongoing efforts to reset the relationship between Washington and Kiev, US Vice President JD Vance met with Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky and his top aides in Rome on Sunday.


Crucially, this is the first time Zelensky and Vance have met since their blow-up in the White House in February. The pointed exchange had even led to Trump very briefly suspending weapons deliveries and intelligence-sharing with Ukraine.

Three U.S. Catholic bishops and a parish priest were among religious leaders President Donald Trump appointed to an advisory board of his recently established Religious Liberty Commission.


Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone of San Francisco; Bishop Thomas J. Paprocki of Springfield, Illinois; and Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of Fort-Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, will support the commission’s work. Joining them is Father Thomas Ferguson, pastor of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Alexandria, Virginia.
