Supreme Court sides with religious employers, orders New York to reconsider abortion mandate

The Supreme Court on June 16 handed a win to religious employers, overturning a lower court ruling and ordering New York’s top court to reconsider its abortion coverage mandate under religious liberty protections.

In the unsigned decision, the justices reversed a ruling that upheld New York’s mandate requiring employer health plans to cover “medically necessary” abortions. The rule, first enacted in 2017 and codified in 2022, offers only a narrow exemption for religious entities that both employ and serve people of the same faith — an exemption critics say is too restrictive.

Anti-surrogacy activists denounce exploitation of poor women, human trafficking

Bernardo García, executive director of the Casablanca Declaration, a coalition that calls for the universal abolition of surrogacy, said that in reality the practice amounts to “the exploitation of poor women and the sale of children.” The Casablanca Declaration takes its name from a conference on the subject held in Casablanca, Morocco, in 2023.

García spoke to “EWTN Noticias,” the Spanish-language broadcast edition of EWTN News, during the coalition’s third summit, held last week in Lima, Peru, with specialists in bioethics, law, and communications participating.

Cardinal Raymond Burke said he has asked Pope Leo XIV to remove measures restricting the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) in dioceses.

Burke spoke at a London conference organized by The Latin Mass Society of England and Wales, telling attendees that he hopes the new pontiff will “put an end to the persecution” of Catholic faithful who want to celebrate Mass using the “more ancient usage” — “usus antiquior” — of the Roman liturgy.

WaPo: Trump Reverses ICE Exemption for Farms, Hotels, Meatpackers

President Donald Trump’s deputies have reversed the short-lived ICE exemption policy for hotel, farm, and restaurant companies, according to the Washington Post.

On Monday, Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLoughlin told Fox: “We continue to enforce the law … there is no safe harbor.”

The restoration of Trump’s original policy is good news for ordinary Americans, millions of whom have been pushed aside by employers’ preference for the desperate migrants who are willing to accept lower wages or salaries in exchange for living in the United States.

The Sanctuary State Confederacy – Essay

Most Americans think of the Civil War as an unambiguous conflict between the North and the South over slavery, and that is generally accurate. It was an insurrection against the federal government committed by 11 states whose Democrat governors and legislators feared that the recently elected Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, would deprive them of their non-citizen labor force.

These state officials vowed to resist any attempt by the federal government to put down their rebellion and routinely denounced the new president as an aspiring dictator. Why does this sound familiar?
